Description

It may have a custom look that could give you the impression that it's a heavily modded (and therefore somewhat temperamental) vintage SUV, but looks can often be deceiving. Thoughtfully configured for frequent driving, this 1971 GMC Suburban comes with extensive documentation, including build sheets, maintenance receipts and even restoration photos to document its transition into the outstanding ride you now see before you.
An unabashedly flashy exterior - featuring VW silver paint that's ornamented with hand-painted olive green pinstripes - replaces the orange and white combination this GMC started out with, and it's a great modification, with the paint showing a nice shine under its very even clear coat. This Suburban's customization has been performed with an attention to detail, as despite its more than 45 years of service, it emerges as a very well-aligned and finished vehicle, with a very straight front grille from Chevrolet, clean and level bumpers and trim, flush-fitting body panels with even gaps, and doors and hood that open and shut smoothly. It's got an appealing, distinct appearance - with a single door on the driver's side, the more traditional two-doors on the passenger side, and a pair of ambulance-style doors in back that provide exceptionally easy access to the rear storage area. Viewed from up close, the cabin has a wide-open feel, largely due to carrying no fewer than thirteen panels of glass around its perimeter, with all surrounded by clean trim and new rubber seals.
Inside you'll find a very comfortable and well-appointed two-toned interior - very well-suited to enjoyable, long distance excursions. Its extensive seating - featuring bucket seats up front that straddle a convenient drop-down armrest, with two rows of bench seats in back - has a great two-tone pattern, with gray cloth inserts surrounded by very clean white vinyl. There's lots of room for you and your passengers to spread out and ride in comfort. The dash area, sitting just beyond the wood grain steering wheel and Ididit tilt column, has been reworked to great effect, with a full assortment of white-faced ProComp gauges sitting inside a polished aluminum cluster that's mirrored by a second matching panel on the passenger's side. A Vintage Air climate control system has been added and it's in great form, blowing with plenty of force out of the dash-mounted registers to keep everyone nice and comfortable. Sitting front and center in the dash is an AM/FM/CD player that also features USB connectivity to expand your audio options. Just beyond the ambulance doors sits a well-proportioned storage area -in great shape and lined with plush carpeting, with a cover over the full-sized spare stowed off to the side.
This is a custom SUV that runs with confidence-inspiring reliability. A 406-cubic inch V8 sits underneath the hood in the expansive engine bay. It's a lightly travelled powerplant, with only about 2,000 miles on its top end, and it features a pair of AFR heads to go along with a hydraulic cam and roller rockers to enhance its performance. An Edelbrock ProFlow 3 fuel injection system sits in place of a standard carburetor to provide improved all-weather starting and reliability and, with a 700r4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission sitting behind the engine, you'll get the benefit of low-RPM highway motoring. This truly eye-catching and unique vintage SUV sits on a set of awesome-looking Detroit Steel Wheels - 18" in front and 20" in back - wrapped with brand new white walled Toyo Proxis 3 radials.
