Description

Up for auction at no reserve is a very rare 61 GMC 1/2 ton factory four wheel drive! THIS PICKUP HAS A MISSING TITLE AND WILL BE SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY. According to what I have read, GMC and Chevrolet did not keep track of there pickup production numbers till 64, so knowing how many 4x4's left the factory in 61 might be impossible to figure out. However, by looking at VIN number info, both 1960 and 1961 used the letter N for a model year code, in the 7th character of the VIN. The 8th through 11th character is the sequential serial number. In 60 the 4x4 sequential number started with 1500 and the 61 started with 2000. This must mean that there were a maximum of 500 4x4's built in 1960. Weather or not the 61 model year followed around the same production numbers is beyond me. What I can tell you is that this is the 238th 4x4 built in 1961. If anyone has any info about production numbers, or I am wrong about this, please let me know and I will note it.
It has what is believed to be it's original 305 V6. It is currently not running, but does turn over. I put in a set of points and a condenser and still do not have any spark. I am sure it needs a complete tune up,( cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coil). It has been sitting for a while. The guy I bought it from bought it at an estate auction a few years back, it wasn't running then and didn't come with a title. It appears that it was used around a cattle feed yard, and was probably never licensed as long as the feed yard owned it.
The pickup is fairly solid with the exception of right above the windshield, and front of the box. There is also a little rust starting in the passenger door, lower front fender, and beneath where the windshield wraps around the cab inside. The floorboards, cab corners, body mounts, rocker panels, and where the floorboards and kick panels meet are in excellent condition! There is some filler in the body, but it doesn't appear to be hiding anything that we can't already see. It appears that they used filler to cover up some dings when they gave it that paint job, that even Ray Charles could have saw was butt ugly! The original body color looks to be a robin egg blue.
It also comes with another windshield that isn't cracked, and a new in the box brake and clutch master cylinder.
I am very flexible on time needed to pick it up, HOWEVER, FULL PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE AUCTION ENDING. I have been burnt in the past too many times on people who win an auction and tell me a few weeks later that there wife won't let them buy it.
This is a super rare truck, that wouldn't take much to get back on the road and enjoy, or would make a great restoration candidate!
