One of a Kind 1987 GMC Pierce Fire Truck 8.2 liter Turbo Detroit Diesel 52,000 Original Miles 5 Speed manual transmission High and Low Gears Dually Rear-End Marmon-Herrington All Wheel Drive (most fire trucks ARE NOT 4 wheel drive) $10,000 worth of axle upgrades before it was retired (this truck will do 70 mph). Dwarfs all other trucks; to give you an idea, the top of the hood is over 6 feet tall. No CDL required to own and drive this Fabulous Fire Truck (I live in Michigan and was able to get a plate for it without a CDL). Starts right up every time; out of all the vehicles I have owned, this diesel starts up the quickest.
Don't forget, this has a Diesel engine with only 52,000 original miles. Properly maintained, this will be a family heirloom for many generations. From the looks of it, it has never been driven in winter.
It has a lot of storage space for tools or for lawn chairs/BBQ. On the back of the truck the middle compartment had a diesel generator but that was "lost" when the truck was retired.
I have owned the truck for almost a year and a half now and was planning on keeping the box on the back and loading it up with tools, a generator, air compressor, a couple different welders, and making it a mobile repair unit. But, since then my plans have changed and I don't want the truck just sitting around when someone else can put it to better use. I have probably driven the truck a total of 350 miles, and that is an overestimate.
I think the truck has about a 400 gallon water tank (I don't know exactly how big the water tank is so I could be wrong). The pump works correctly. The last time the truck was filled with water was on July 14th, 2018, when I took it to the fire department and they filled it for me and hooked up one of their hoses to the truck to see how it sprays water. It does leak water here and there but being at the fire department didn't allow me to take the time to inspect the locations of the leaks. There is a section of high pressure hose about 3 feet long between the pump and the hose reel on the truck. That section of 3 foot high pressure hose leaks so I can't tell you if the hose on the truck works or not. Other than that, there is nothing mechanically wrong with this fire truck. Starts right up and ready to drive away. The truck is from 1987; I'm sure the waterworks part of it was very well maintained during its time with the fire department. The truck was retired in 2014; the previous owner bought the truck in 2016 and I purchased it in May 2018.
The 4 spotlights on top of the truck extend upwards approximately 6 feet above the truck and you can rotate them 360 degrees.
The label says Marmon-Herrington All Wheel Drive, and yes, it is all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive or whatever you want to call it but you can take it out of 4 wheel drive, so I would say that it isn't All Wheel Drive all the time (I hope that makes sense).
You know how they don't make things like they used to? Well, this is one of those vehicles; this is a Beast of a truck. Google: 'Marmon-Herrington' and check them out.
