classic vintage chrome gmc square body merlin 509 big block auto transmission bl
Description
This 1976 GMC C1500 has the first impression of a preserved classic time capsule-style pickup. But the little callouts front and rear clue you into a terrific Merlin 509 big block V8 pushing 580+ horsepower! So let's just say that this handy blue GMC can haul far more than just the weekend's chores.
The paint makes a very cool first impression. It's a nice shade of blue that looks fitting on a 1970s machine as well as in modern times. It also helps that it's a later update with a clearcoat shine. It gives the truck a pleasant look that goes with its sleeper-style image. In fact, speaking of this truck's understatement, it really just wants to give the first impression of a solid classic with the full-length trim showing off the good sheetmetal. The bed rails and chrome bumpers add a little extra flair, too. The bed even looks ready for work with the thick rubber mat. So you'll probably just see this as a good 'ol classic GMC...unless you pick up on subtle upgrades like the big dual exhaust tips, competition-style torque thrust wheels, or the 509 callouts on the tailgate and grille.
Inside is more blue and sleeper style. So this is for those who love the true stock old-school style. The velour seat, classic dual-spoke steering wheel, and plenty of wood-like trim is all about giving you that vintage truck nostalgia. The only thing sports car like about this truck (at least in your first impression) is how the gauge panel really wraps around you. In fact, the only modern upgrade you're likely to spot is the cup holder. But then you twist the ignition key, and your whole perspective changes.
The engine bay can't hide this truck's true nature, and of course, you'll never want to hide it either. It's a crisp and shining presentation of a Merlin 509 cubic-inch performance big block. This is fortified with an Eagle forged steel crankshaft, JE forged pistons, Clevite bearings, hydraulic flat tappet camshaft, Manley valves, and roller rockers. It has all the right go-fast goodies, like a Holley double-pumper four-barrel carburetor, carb spacer, Merlin mid-rise intake, and a wicket set of long tube headers feeding the dual exhaust. There are also the right supporting components, like a Mildon oil pan, upgraded pulleys, upgraded distributor, new valve cover gaskets, and a large aluminum radiator. The full package is stated to make a whopping 582 horsepower. This is a huge power package, and so it's good to have the consignor claim that the three-speed automatic transmission was recently rebuilt and that it feeds a stout 12-bolt Positraction rear end. And while you understand that dropping the accelerator releases a fury of power in this truck, what we also like is how everyday tame it can be, too. Power steering, power brakes, and front discs all make sure this pickup can also live up to its sleeper-style weekend hauler look whenever you want.
Complete with build receipts and owner's manual, this is not only impresses for its massive power but also for how you get to hide it within some true classic style. Don't let this distinct GMC slip away, call today!
