1988 Honda CRX HF with B16A engine swap, restored suspension and restored interior


My name is John and I’m an engineering student at Cal State Long Beach. I built this CRX over the past year and it has served me well. When I got it, it was in rough shape with a worn out GSR engine, but I slowly restored every part of the car to my liking. This car has been very reliable, including many trips from southern California to my family’s home in northern California.

I am selling this car because I will be graduating next semester and looking to move on, I hope you like what you see and ask me any questions you have.

We pulled the engine out and installed a B16A, the block was a used block and the head was rebuilt with new seals and valve springs. The car is wired OBD1 with a P28 ECU, all sensored wired so there is no check engine light. Transmission is an Integra 5 speed and shifts great, brand new Exedy clutch installed as well. All Honda fluids used, all Japanese gaskets and seals. All maintenance is up to date including water pump, timing belt, and thermostat.


The interior was restored by hunting all the parts needed and making it all work. An Accord climate control system was retrofitted which looks and works better. A stereo system with decent speakers make the trip enjoyable. Del Sol seats with custom rails sit low and offer better support than the CRX seats. Carpet cleaned by hot water pressure washing.


Suspension overhaul included changing all bushings, bearings, and ball joints. All components are either Energy Suspension, Hard Race, Prothane, NSK, Koni, and Neuspeed. Car drives absolutely excellent, you will love how it corners. This car is very nimble. Brand new brakes, all bolts torqued to spec.


A B16A CRX is rare to see, especially one in this shape. It’s a great base for a race car, or could be turned into a show car. This car has been an excellent daily driver, fun and economical to own. I’ve had a lot of fun building this car, and hope it will find a good home.
