Up For sale is the first Humvee H1 built by diyhummerbuild.com. The complete build can be seen at that web site. diyhummerh1build.com AS IS no warranty written or implied
We started with a 1990 humvee, it was a clean titled humvee purchased locally. I drove it to the shop.
The first step we took was to quiet down the humvee. Lots and lots of engine and road noise. At 55 it sounded like it was coming apart!! So we stripped down the interior and installed 3/4 rubber mat in all the floor areas. Under the seats. Behind the seats. Everywhere there is floor it got mat. Next step was to install HushMat or kilMat over the entire rest of the truck. If the metal is covered it has either HushMat or Kilmat also covering it. We used the HushMat mostly up front in passenger area and used the kilmat in the cargo area, roof, slant back and some outside areas. This includes The roof and entire slant back. Again if it is covered with carpet or suede it has Sound deadening on it. pics and videos diyhummerh1build.com
Then it was time to address the soft top and doors. We called Plan B and ordered a hardtop hard doors with locks. and a slant back top. To the tune of close to 8000.00. Then it was time to install them. Lets just say that it is no easy task. With the humvee sealed up carpeted and much quieter it was time to focus on the drive train.pics and videos diyhummerh1build.com
We purchased our donor duramax. 2002 LB7 Allison 5 speed. 175,000 miles. Drove it 135 miles back to the shop no issues. No leaks, No injector issues, ran great, shifted great. Installed the new drive train. Motor, trans, transfer case, wiring, ecm, ect. 3 inch body mounts. New Exhaust flange and custom down pipe and exhaust. The exhaust is part duramax and part humvee. We retained both factory fuse boxes, ecm, pcm, transfer case module and 4x4 switch. We used a Edge Evolution CTS 2 mounted in the original dash location for our gauges, scanner, and tuner. Fuel is deliver by a Air Dog Raptor mounted right next to fuel tank. To shift the trans we went with a Sidewinder built for the Allison. To keep the Allison cool we added 2- double pass remote trans coolers with fans. mounted all the way in the back. We used the stock radiator and a aftermarket inter-cooler.pics and videos diyhummerh1build.com
With the humvee running and driving again it was time to turn back to the interior. We decided to hit this in a big way!Starting with the seats, Everybody just bolts in seats and says look its got custom seats!!! Well they don't fit!!! If you just bolt them in they sit way to high and way to far forward. The rear seats are the worst. There is no room between the seat and the crossbar for your legs. They will fit but Not at all comfortable. I spent 6 hrs on the first rear seat to get it just right. completely stripped the seat to the frame. Cut the frame down to fit and adjusted where the seat back and the lower seat where they meet to get it to fit just right. So the seat are custom fitted to the humvee not just bolted in. All seat recline and fold up just like factory. From there we started on the entertainment.
We installed 15 inch fold down multi media player, in the new upper console wrapped in syn leather. then 7" double din touchscreen receiver with smart phone, mirroring, bluetooth, back up camera and GPS. 4- Rockville competition 6.5 speakers, 4- Rockvile titanium tweeters, 2- Rockville 10" subs. 1- 3600 watt amp and 1- 1200 watt amp All wired and installed in custom center console and overhead consoles.pics and videos diyhummerh1build.com
To keep things secure when you park the humvee we installed 2 GUN Vault Deluxe Safes. that have interior light built in to them. To keep you and your passages safe there is a Quick Draw drop down pistol safe to the left of the driver.pics and videos diyhummerh1build.com
To address the electrical we decided to run 2 systems 1- 12 volt 1- 24 volt. toaccomplishthis we installed a battery isolator and charge all batteriesindependentlyof each other from the factory duramax alternator. the 24 volt system has 2- new 100ah deep cycle dry batteries. It runs lights. wipers, blower motor. the 12 volt system has a new 1000 CCA interstate it runs the drivetrain, and newaccessories.pics and videos diyhummerh1build.com
Installed hidden back up camera this morning 12/10/2018Installed New Dimmer Switch 12/14/2018
We also installed new rear pads and rotors. Right side E-brake cable and hydro-boostunit. LED headlights, New windshieldleft, right and seals
and the list goes on and on. I am sure I missed plenty. IF you have any ? please give the shop a call at 608-373-9750 ask for Chris
