Description

Up for auction is our 1940 International D2 ½ ton truck. This truck was a barn find in its home town in South Dakota where it was sold new and was still owned by its original owner. This truck took years to get purchased and was loved by its owner. I have owned the truck for several years now and have made it a reliable and functional truck.

The body is in amazing condition for a 78-year-old truck. Being in the dry South Dakota climate the undercarriage, the cab and bed is very solid and essentially rust free. It’s also amazing the original bed is still in-tact, many trucks of this era were converted to flat beds. Even the original serial number tag is still on the bed. The original cowl tag is also still on the cab and has never been tampered with. All the sheet metal on this truck is original to this truck and is in good condition. This truck is not pieced together from multiple junk yard trucks! The majority of the paint on this truck is original and has great PATINA. The fenders and running boards were originally black that has mostly worn off and is just light surface rust giving the truck lots of character. None of the Patina you see here is fake or made up, this truck is the real deal.

The original flathead 4 cyl was frozen, so it and the transmission were removed. A low mileage 250ci inline 6 cyl and th350 automatic were located out of a 68 Camaro being converted to a V-8. This engine and transmission run and operate good. A local hot rod shop did the swap and custom built all the engine mounts and modified the firewall. The original radiator was boiled out and a cooling fan installed. The electrical was converted to 12 volt. All of the engine wiring is new and a new fuse block was made for under the dash. A new open drive shaft was custom made and the rear differential was rebuilt. The entire brake system has been rebuilt/replaced with new parts. The front springs were custom made to lower the truck 2.5 inches. The rear springs were also rebuilt and made to lower the truck. The exhaust system is new aluminized pipe with an original style muffler….The truck sounds cool! A new fuel tank was custom built to mount under the rear of the bed for safety and functionality. Overall, the undercarriage is very nice and has been nicely repainted.

As far as the electrical goes, all of the old has been replaced except for the harness for the lights. That is all that’s left to make it totally street legal. The wipers do not work, but the heater has been fully rebuilt and works great. The siren/horn on the front works great too. The gauges need to be converted to 12 volt, but the auxiliary mechanical oil pressure gauge works.

The seat has been totally rebuilt and recovered to look original. The headliner and firewall pad is also new and correct for this truck. The shifter is a new Lokar that looks cool and works great. All the dash and inside of the doors is original paint and still has a nice shine.

If you are looking for a very unique pre-war truck that has awesome patina, then this is the truck for you. When is the last time you saw a International in this condition driving down the road? I get thumbs-up everywhere I drive it. It’s a very fun and reliable truck. Title free and clear. Call 303 475-4544 for more information.
