Here is what I did to make it great:
New weather strip lip in the floor on the driver and a partial on the passenger. I had to weld in small patched and reinforce where the seat mounts were bolted. Cleaned the floor and put POR15 to seal it then put acoustic/heat heat shield down. On top of that I put in ACC Vinyl Flooring that I was less than thrilled with. It is ok but I should have went with the carpet like I normally do. The fix was not great but should last a while. I put 3 point seatbelts in it from Wesco MFG. There is also one for the middle passenger that is a lap belt.
Everything in engine bay was sorted with new valve cover gasket,New plugs, wires, rotor button, capNew Battery with custom welded in battery box.New Battery Cables - HD styleNew Filters and OilAll new Vacuum HosesNew Hoses and BeltsNew Heater Control ValveFlush and new coolant addedNew Power Steering supply and return linesBrakes adjusted and fluid replaced in all the linesNew Falken Mud Tires x 5 with spare in the bed. Same tires on the new Jeep GladiatorNew weather stripping in the doors and doors adjustedHas a pig tail for towing but the bumper is not that HD for much towing.Fixed the washer pump and wiper bladesNew Light SwitchReceipts go with the vehicle.
Not working are one turn dash indicator light, horn, radio, sometimes the oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge goes to 3/4 but works fine. Interior lights work but blow a fuse sometimes so I removed it.
This is truly a special Scout. I shipped this from Oregon and it worked on a farm near Baker City. I bought it from the original owner that bought it new. This little Scout is mostly untouched and mostly original. It runs and drives wonderfully with no issues. Original paint (silver faded) and super straight body. It has a few place with surface rust and a ding here and there but what a great straight body with no major damage.
If you want a Scout to get in and drive anywhere, get good fuel mileage vs V8, and really enjoy driving, this is it! Starts every time, idles perfect and runs cool. Ready to go and you won't be disappointed. Please let me know if you have any questions. I have been working on IH for 30 years and you find many more in this original condition with no body filler and all stock. I love the solid metal grill of the 1975 model year. As is, no warranty, no returns. Thanks and good luck! Gordon's Garage
