This is an original ” black & yellow plate” 100% rust free California 1961 Scout 80 hardtop convertible. The engine starts at the turn of the key and sounds amazing! It runs extremely well and idles superbly (recent carburetor rebuild). The clutch feels great and shifting through the gears is easy. Although the brakes stop the Scout fine they will need attention and most likely most of the brake pistons will need to be rebuilt or replaced, etc. The drive-train is as solid and tight as you can imagine. The beefy 4 cylinder engine pulls like a train. All electrical works properly. The gauges all show accurate readings. The heater and defrost work perfectly. The winshield wipers and motors are also in proper working order.
Cosmetically the Scout has a tremendous amount of character. She was re-sprayed a number of years ago. Thankfully only the outer panels were painted so it wouldn't be to difficult to bring it back to its original glory. The frame, floors wheel wells, rockers and all other panels have zero rust. There is minor discoloration here and there, but all the metal is 100% solid with no previous repairs, blistering or holes anywhere whatsoever. The structural integrity of this Scout is A+++.
Also included is the original build sheet ( inside the glove box ) along with a very cool original canister, jack, etc. (rare).
The bench seat still bears all of it’s original material. Nice gauges and dash accessories. The tires are old but still hold air. All in all this is an awesome Scout that can be restored to perfection or go thru the brake system and have an awesome beach cruiser as-is. The top is easily removable. Whatever the case may be you cannot go wrong with this well preserved classic beauty!
