1967 International Harvester Scout 800 Postal Post Office Rural Mail RHD Auto
Description
Very rare opportunity!! This is #4421 of the 1967 International Harvester Scout contract for the US Postal Service. It is believed that this scout served as a rural mail carrier vehicle in the Centralia, IL area. From there it made it into a few private owners' hands around the Peoria, IL area until I brought it up to northern IL.
It has a 152ci 4cyl engine. It has a Borg-Warner BW8 automatic transmission. It is right hand drive and has the shifter on the dash. It is rear-wheel drive (2wd). I still have the original mail table. Although a passenger seat was installed in it's place.
The passenger seat is rough. There's a rear scout seat that was installed that was not original, but could be nice depending on your intents. The scout still retains the tire pressure and "look before backing" decals. However, the decals on the top and the Civil Defense decals were removed at some point, but the residue that shows the shopes are still there.
This scout 800 is extremely solid for the year and for serving so long in Illinois. There is very little rust. There's a little in the driver's toeboard and some pin-holing in the passenger side panel in front of the rear wheel. There are dents in various places on the body and they can be seen in the pictures. The tires are in very good condition. Chassis is very solid. Has a newer muffler. Has new vent ducting and blower motor. It has a new battery as well. Previous owners converted the carburetor to a Weber 2bbl, but I still have the 1904 Holley 1bbl carb. A newer transmission cooler has been added, but I still have the original heat exchangers. The transmission is a little over-filled and should have some fluid drained. Fuild it bright red and not burnt. The steering is manual, the seals in the gear-box are worn out, but new seals are included. All glass is in good shape. But window and door weather seals and fuzzies should be replaced if you desire. Passenger wiper works, drivers side doesn't. There are a few leaks here and there, but nothing excessive. Fuel gage is not functioning.
Overall, this is a very nice solid postal scout. They don't come up often especially in this unrestored condition. It could still use some tinkering here and there to be completely dependable. If you are looking for a really good start for a restoration, or if you are looking for a fun around town type of vehicle, maybe this one is for you. It has a top speed of about 45-55mph. The top is removable if you wish for it to be convertible.
I have a lot of documentation for the scout, including but not limited to: copies of old titles, Line set ticket, Operators manual, receipts, and other documents. These will be included. Additional parts will be included as well. Some of these items are: a second steering box, another transmission, carbs, brake and suspension parts, a second set of top side glass, and various gaskets and seals.
The vehicle is being sold as-is and sale is final. Has clean, clear Illinois title in my name. In person inspection can be arranged by appointment and is encouraged. Buyer is responsible for pick-up or transport. I will do my best to work with your carrier if you are having it shipped. Vehicle has been listed in good faith with all known issues conveyed. I have done my best to critically describe the vehicle so there are no big surprises. Questions are welcome and I will answer to the best of my knowledge. A deposit is due as indicated in the auction. The full balance is due within 7 business days. Pickup should be arranged within 2 weeks if possible. I will be away on vacation 12/30/19-1/4/20...just a heads up.
