Description

1949 International KB2 Panel Delivery

NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY

The 1947-1949 International KB-2 pickup evolved from International's K-series pickup trucks introduced in the early 1940s, but old age didn't hinder its ability to work as hard as any postwar rival. International built its first car in 1907 and its first truck two years later. Over the years, International's triple-diamond logo became widely associated with tough, hard-working vehicles. In 1952, International could still claim that over half the vehicles it ever built were still in service.

For consignment a barn find KB2 Panel Delivery truck from the International Company from 1949. This particular truck can be restored by an ambitious restorer, or just used as a parts truck for a current restoration. All steel panels, some with invasive rust at the seams, some cleaner, all have surface rust combined with a patina of aged blue paint.

Exterior
Most of the original truck is intact, and steel panels are abundant. So is surface rust and aged paint, in particular the surfaces that face the sun and sky, and elements. The curved grille with its 2 winglets which creep into the fenders is present, however the center section has been taken over by invasive rust, and what winglets are showing signs of deterioration. Front fenders house bezeled headlights, but on the passenger's side the headlight and turn signal are missing. The rounded hood has its front badge on the nose, and original badges on the sides, and shows surface rust. The split windshield is surrounded by a rusted trim, and above is a metal roof for the cab and cargo area which has surface rust. Small running boards extend from the front fenders, and also show areas of invasive rust. The cargo area and rear of the truck have no invasive rust, just surface rust. On the passenger rear side, the fender is not attached however it is in the interior cargo area.

Interior
The passenger area sports 2 buckets, one original to this truck and the other replacement, so they are non-matching. Floor boards are missing underneath, and the original dash is present and has a heavy coating of dust and some paint peeling, but has original gauge cluster. The back is a wood floor with rusted metal strips and plenty of old parts assumed to go with this truck, however not confirmed. All structural steel inside and the cargo area appears to have been repainted save for the mid-section of the roof inside. Above the passengers is a warped cardboard insert.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 214ci Flat 6 cylinder with a 1-barrel carburetor, and a 3-speed manual transmission attached to the back. This engine does not currently run.

Undercarriage
Surface rust and plenty of grease and road dirt are covering metal surfaces underneath. Currently it is unknown and cannot be determined if this structure and frame is sound.

A barn find parts truck, which you can work your way through to find parts you may need for another restoration.
