1970 Jaguar XKE 4.2L E Type restored
Description
My intention was not to build a concourse quality car but a very nice driver quality Jaguar. The original color was light blue or baby blue with dark blue interior. Numbers matching! I painted it British Racing Green with a biscuit interior because that is such a classic British color.
The original top was vinyl dark blue. It now has a cloth black top with a tan interior to match.
I bought the car around three years ago and stripped it to bare metal and had the body media blasted. We put it on the rotisserie for the restoration.
I did not rebuild the engine because it was a good running 4.2 L and didn't need to be rebuilt. It has a rebuilt water pump. The flywheel was resurfaced. I painted and polished and cleaned the engine to make it look new. The transmission also worked well so I just cleaned it and replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.
All the black parts were powder coated and all the silver parts on the suspension we're also powder coated. The rear - IRS was rebuilt. The components were media blasted then powder coated except for the red parts which were painted.
The exhaust system was was in good condition so I just painted it silver. The rear chrome resonators look to be original. They were cleaned and polished but they are not new.
The entire convertible top structure was sandblasted and painted individually and put back together. It has a brand-new wood bow.
I purchased brand-new Dayton wire wheels and new Vredestein tires.
My mechanic who is a retired jaguar mechanic who used to work on these cars when they were new did all the electrical work. He installed the gauges and lights. He went through all the brakes and fuel lines and rebuild & adjusted the carburetors.
The brake calipers on the rear were lined with stainless steel sleeves and restored by White Post restorations.
All new wiring harness for the entire car.
The door glass in the windshield are original and they are not perfect (they are driver quality).
Front and rear bumpers are new and fitted to the car. No other chrome on the car was redone they are original OK looking but not perfect. I would say some need to be redone but I can send more pictures of anything if you want more clarity.
The car has 0 miles on it and it has not been driven since the restoration.
