Offered for sale is an absolutely gorgeous, entirely numbers matching, extremely original, one owner, 40k original mile 1969 Jaguar E-Type OTS (Open Two Seater) finished in factory correct Signal Red over black leather with an original, solid and unmolested undercarriage. As evidenced by the original invoice (included in the sale), the car was sold new by Biddle Motors on October 9, 1970 to a gentleman in Oshkosh, WI for $5,400.00 and would remain with its original owner until we were able to acquire it earlier this spring. Always well cared for, never in an accident and always used sparingly as a weekend driver (and only in fair weather months), this is undoubtedly one of the most original, lowest mileage, one owner E-Types on the market today, an investment grade time capsule that is as strong mechanically as its low original miles would suggest.
The car’s body is straight and original, retaining excellent panel fit with absolutely no rust, no evidence of filler or body-work and cloaked by its consistent Signal Red finish, marred only by the most minor of imperfections, the most notable being a soft ding in the lower front valence. The paint is believed to be original with the exception of a spot-painted driver side front fender, necessitated by a scratch in the paint that occurred as the result of a falling object in the original owner’s garage decades ago. Before and after photos are on file, no bodywork or filler was required and the color match and execution is high level. All of the glass and brightwork remains in excellent original condition and the dry original trim rubber has been freshly replaced. The chrome wire wheels are also in great original condition, wrapped in Goodyear tires with plenty or remaining tread. Due to the original owner’s careful use and storage, the car’s trunk and undercarriage are both entirely original and exceptionally sound and solid. Rust is not – nor has it ever been – an issue for this E-Type.
The car’s interior is equally clean and completely original. While showing minor patina consistent with their age, the black leather seats are in great shape, free of any rips, tears or split seams. The same can be said for all of the interior panels and carpets. The original wood steering wheel is free of any cracks and the dash houses a fully functional switch panel and gauges. The glove box houses the original owner’s manual as well as the aforementioned original invoice, and the car comes complete with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate validating its numbers matching status. The trunk mat is virtually flawless and underneath you’ll find the original full spare wire wheel and tire as well as the original jack and knock off hammer. Lastly, the car’s soft top is brand new and retains its original boot cover.
The original owner began using the car less and less in recent years and so we had our marque-specialist mechanic (with over 50 years experience) set about sorting out all of the mechanicalsas soon as we received it. This was inclusive of but not limited to: the sorting of the electrical system, new correct mufflers and exhaust system, the cleaning and tuning of the carburetors, a new fuel pump and replaced cooling system hoses. Aside from some of these basics, the car remained in excellent mechanical condition, a testament to the original owner’s careful stewardship. Our mechanic’s opinion of the car is as high as our own – there’s no doubt in his mind that this was a well-cared-for, properly stored example that is once again ready for spirited motoring.
That’s exactly what our experience has been from behind the wheel. The original, numbers matching 4.2L engine starts easily, idles consistently and pulls strongly and smoothly through each of the original transmission’s gears. The car has upgraded S.U. carburetors, compression is excellent and even across all cylinders and the engine tone is as grin-inducing as the performance. Ride quality is excellent, the suspension and brakes each functioning as they should, and the car is a joy to drive whether tooling through town, winding through the canyons or bombing down the highway.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an extremely original, numbers matching, one owner, 40k original mile, entirely solid and mechanically sound 1969 Jaguar Series II 4.2L E-Type OTS finished in a timeless and attractive livery. The astronomical valuation jump that the Series I XKEs realized in recent years has continued to drive the stability of the Series II market and as the collecting trend towards originality endures, this remarkable example will undoubtedly offer its next owner investment upside while providing years of enjoyment. If you’re in the market for an E-Type Roadster, this beautiful 1969 certainly deserves your consideration.
