GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This Series “1 ½” 1968 Jaguar 4.2 E-Type Matching Numbers Convertible left the factory in October of 1967. Factory triple blue with a brand new professional paint job. This E-Type was an Arizona car its whole life and is a completely rust-free car. Vin Number 1E16161, Engine Number 7E14761-9, Body Number 4E8128 and Gearbox Number EE1457. There were only 2,479 examples of the Series 1.5 (LHD) Roadster ever made. The Series 1.5 added many improvements in drivability and improved synchromesh gearbox. The cooling system was increased in capacity which eliminated overheating in warm climates. The 1968 Jaguar Series 1.5 E-Type shares the desirable 4.2-liter engine and remarkable body style with its predecessor including the sexier smaller mouth. This model, which fell between the Series I and Series II, featured open headlights, twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, twin cooling fans, adjustable seats, rocker switches instead of toggles and two windscreen wipers instead of the previous three. As the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate (JDHC) attests it was manufactured in Coventry in October 26, 1967 and dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York, USA November 29, 1967…. It was then sold to its original owner Mrs. Eleanor A. Smith in Arizona. When we acquired the car it was in original condition with its original (but very faded) factory paint. As much as we were tempted to leave the paint, we felt that it did not do the car justice and it needed a professional grade paint job. The interior was in excellent original condition so we left it alone except for the torn original convertible top which we replaced with a with a brand new one. The carpet looks to have been replaced at some point in the car’s life along with the addition of a more modern stereo and speakers. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION: Our engineer went through the car and mechanically she needed nothing. The original un-modified 4.2 liter straight six motor runs great, and makes excellent power. The original 4 speed transmission shifts effortlessly and makes for a spirited fun drive. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine compartment looks nice with new paint under the bonnet and the engine is clean and presentable and in original condition. EXTERIOR: The undercarriage was in excellent original condition so we left it as it was and focused on removing the chrome, emblems, and stripping off all the original worn paint. We then gave it a very high quality, laser straight show quality paint job in its original color as documented in the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. INTERIOR: On the inside the seats, dash, and carpet were in great condition and did not need to be replaced. The convertible top was replaced with a professionally installed quality replacement. All window glass is in excellent condition and windows roll up and down as they should. There are no rips or defects in the interior upholstery and all gauges work as they should. You will feel at home in the cockpit of this outstanding E Type. The result of this effort is a stunningly gorgeous Jaguar E-Type painted in its correct midnight blue paint, sitting on wire wheels and redline tires. This is a E type you will be proud to take to Vintage Car Rally’s, car shows, or just a fun summers drive. |
