GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

I always wanted an XKE like this but am 77 now and it's time to let go of my cars. It would be difficult to find a nicer, rust free, honest original Jaguar XKE in a non boring color than this one. It is a no rust one owner car. I am technically the 2nd owner but have never used the car or retitled it since purchasing from the original owner 12 years ago. Matching numbers. It was never driven in the wet and was garaged in the owners climate controlled building in California and Arizona. The best original Jaguar I have ever seen and it would be hard to find another this nice. I will answer all email questions - no telephone.

HISTORY:

I purchased this car from a lady in Arizona in 2008. Her husband bought the car new from a California dealer when they lived there and drove it for about 34000 miles. It now has 34741 miles on it and is correct. Because of health problems the car was put in storage in 1989 until 2007 when they moved to Arizona. Her husband took a last shot at reliving the past and took the car to a dealer on 8/22/2007 and had major maintanance and recommissioning work performed to the tune of $4264.88 hoping that he could start enjoying the car one last time. Shortly after the work was done he passed away without even having the chance to drive the car once. I found the car by accident - He also owned a Datsun Bluebird which his wife advertised in the local Arizona paper. An old friend went to see the Datsun and purchased it but called me to say that she had a beautiful yellow XKE in storage that was going to be advertised next. I called her and made a deal over the telephone and had it shipped home without even seeing a photo of it. It was a much better car than I had expected so I decided to keep it myself but I never used it and it has sat in the garage under cover for the past 11 years with occasional starting/running to keep everything fresh. The Jaguar Heritage Certificate shows that all of the numbers are matching, it is indeed a Pale Primrose yellow car with black leather interior, was manufactured on 25 June, 1971 and was sent to the USA on 22 July, 1971.

VALUE:

As of this writing Hagertys classic car values list the value for the 1971 Jaguar XKE Coupe at: Fair: $24,300. Good: $36,500. Excellent: $49,200. Concours: $80,900. NADA lists the values as follows: Low: $29,300. Average: $52,100. High: $80,400. This Jaguar's condition is somewhere between excellent and concourse. It is also a good investment as the value will probably continue to increase over time.

ENGINE:

Having overhauled a nmber of XKE V12's in the past I decided because of the age and amount of time the car sat in storage that I would remove the engine and just freshen it up, mainly to replace rubber bits like the oil seals. I got as far as taking the heads off when a friend called and asked if I would be interested in buying a rebuilt 1972 XKE V12 engine that they had removed from a 72 XKE coupe. (ironic). It was rebuilt for a customer but the customers son was going to get the car and drive off to college with it so the father decided that he wanted his son to have something "more reliable" so they removed the V12 and installed a Chevrolet 350 V8 in it's place. So I bought the engine and decided to put it into this XKE so that I could drive it straight away and finish refreshing the original engine at my leisure. The new one ran so good that's as far as it went. So the engine that is in the car is from a black 72 XKE coupe. (Somehow I obtained a British Heritage certificate for the black coupe). The original engine goes with the car - it actually needs nothing but new seals and reassembly - the original factory honing marks are still visible in the cylinders and it would not need much more than new seals and gaskets. The heads have gone missing but the heads and other parts from the black 72 can always be used or sourced if necessary.

NEW PARTS: (p) Complete exhaust system. Winston (California) tires (old but new). Voltage regulator. Rebuilt original Butec alternator. Water hose kit (all). Battery. Fuel tank gaskets and seals. Diaphram Carb kits. All drive belts. New upper cooling pipe kit. Thermal fan switch, harness and gasket. Distributor vacuum retard unit. Alloy thermal T. Brake master cylinder, brake vacuum booster. (p) RECENT WORK: (p) Remove gas tank, flush and clean. Remove radiator, flush and clean. Rebuild steering rack (old seals were seeping). Replace tie rods and steering rack bellows while rack was out. New brake master cylinder and brake booster system (brake fluid was seeping into cannister from old seals). (p) TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH/DIFFERENTIAL:

Transmission works just fine. It is an automatic. No problems.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT:

Excellent, straight, original paint, solid, undamaged. No accident or other damage anywhere. As nice and original as they get.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT:

Excellent. No issues, Original paint.

BODY PANELS, SHEET METAL:

Excellent straight undamaged throughout. Never any rust or body filler anywhere. A California/Arizona car all it's life.

EXTERIOR BODY PARTS:

Chrome is all original and excellent. No issues. One small 1/4" spot on one of the rear bumper bars.

PAINT: Original owner spent $18000 to have the car repainted the original color just before moving to Arizona - wife said he thought it was getting a little too faded from the sun. Obviously a beautiful first class refinishing job. Has some very minor flaws in it here and there just from now being a bit old. You need 20/20 vision a foot away or a magnifying glass to see any of it. All of the internal paint, such as under the bonnet, engine supports, door jambs, etc have not been painted and are still factory original.

INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY:

The interior is in excellent original condition. The leather seats are original and have some cracks in them now but are still soft. Drivers seat has a small tear. Headliner is drooping and will need to be addressed.

DASH AREA:

Dashboard is all original and very nice. Odometer shows 34791 miles and is original backed up by repair bills with odometer readings noted. Here is what works: Horns, turn signals, tachometer, speedometer, temperature gauge, ammeter, oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, ignition switch, start button, glove box lock, dash lights, heater fan, generator and turn signal dash lights, choke. Does NOT work: Windshield wipers did work - at least the motor could be heard but now no response at all.

ELECTRICAL:

Original Butec alternator freshly rebuilt, new voltage regulator, all original wiring is completely intact and in good condition. No butchering anywhere. New battery. All lights, turn signals electrical systems work perfectly.

GLASS: All glass is factory original and in perfect condition.

CHASSIS:

The underside is simply like new., Excellent, straight, complete and undamaged from front to back.

WHEELS/TIRES: All original excellent undamaged wheels (5). Tires were put on new but I don't have a date - they are still like new. They are the rare Winston Tire Corp models made in California. Spare is the original Dunlop Sport.

AIR CONDITIONING:

Excellent original in perfect cold working condition.

SUSPENSION/BRAKES/STEERING:

Brakes master cylinder, booster system have been replaced and new rubber brake hoses installed. All of the hydraulics have been replaced so that it can be driven but it has not been driven down the road - it has only been driven quite a bit up and down my 800 foot long driveway. Brakes are pretty much all brand new but will need bleeding by someone familiar with XKE bleeding procedures. I have had no luck getting all of the air out of the lines. It also needs to be driven and exercised. Steering rack was freshly rebuilt with new seals - originals were starting to leak from sitting.

EXHAUST:

All brand new from front to the chrome tips in back. Installed in 1991 when the car was put in storage (have receipts) so the exhaust is still brand new having not been used. Can still see the burned inventory stickers on the mufflers.

FACTORY ID PLATE:

The original ID plates are all excellent and unmodified. The vehicle serial number is HDT43/28946. Engine number is BP15GB/19089. (This is the correct original engine number).

PAPERWORK:

The car does have a clear proper Arizona title and registration in the original owners name, signed off to me. Includes the Jaguar Heritage Certificate and a lot of parts/maintenance/repair receipts. Also includes the original owners manual packet with the owners manual and service coupon book. Includes many supporting documents.

REVIEW:

A stunning rust free grand touring machine in the right color and condition. The car will need to be transported to your home. It has not been on the road for many years and will need to be driven/exercised at your local location to ensure everything is safe and proper. Also the brakes will need to be bled by someone who is familiar with bleeding Jaguar brakes. I have had no luck purging the new system of air.

INSPECTION OF CAR:

As always, it is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is highly recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have purchased and sold roughly 30 autos/motorcycles through ebay over the past 19 years and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers with 100 percent positive feedback.

SHIPPING:

I have shipped many cars to all parts of the world over the years and can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange transport. The cheapest method usually is to call a transport broker in your area and have them put out bids on the job. The car is in a secure place at my home and it can be collected there. I can assist with loading.

PAYMENT & BIDDING:

Contact me if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid WILL be cancelled. A $1000 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days via a bank cashiers check or wire transfer. Full payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. IN ADVANCE, BEFORE YOU COLLECT THE CAR - This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. When the auction is over payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. The car is at my home and can be left here for up to 30 days at no charge before collection. After that I have the option of charging a storage fee.
