1978 Jaguar XJ6L. 59k miles. California car, very nice mostly original Jaguar
Description
1978 Jaguar XJ6L.
Up for auction is my 1978 Jaguar that I purchased from the family of the original owner. The car was purchased new in Los Angeles and has stayed in California its whole life; and looks to have been garage kept in almost all that time. The car still has its original license plate with many years of registration stickers on it.
The car starts, runs, drives, brakes and steers well. Since I have owned the car I have put about five hundred miles on it. No smoke, runs clean (just passed smog). The power windows and power door locks all work, the original am/fm stereo works as does the 8-track. All the gauges work, so does the clock; as does the switch for the gas tank switch-over mechanism. The interior courtesy lights and the outside lights all work. The interior is in overall very nice and original condition with normal/expected wear.
The body of the car is solid. Paint looks nice (I was told the car has a quality re-paint by the original owner in the late 1990s) and all the weather-striping is in excellent condition; no musty interior smell that is usual with these cars. There are normal chips, scratches and minor parking lot dings; also, it's difficult to see in the pictures but there are some shallow dings/dents on the front area of the roof.
Items of note are that the air-conditioning and heating system worked very well, but this spring the air-condition system has stopped working. I had a friend who is familiar with Jaguars come to my house and he thinks that the a/c compressor clutch will need to be replaced. Sometimes but not always, depending on how fast or slow you slow down to a stop, there is a clunk....same friend thinks a mount on the trans may be the culprit.
The car has a clean and clear California title in my name, registration is current and the car is insured with Haggerty classic car insurance. The family represented the mileage as actual when I purchased the car and I believe it. In the two and a half years I have had the car, I have never had to jump start it; even if it has been parked for weeks at a time. I have had the car smogged within the last month, so transfers in California will be straight-forward. I do have the original owners manual/booklet.
The car is sold as-is and as equipped. However, you are welcome to come see and/or have the car inspected before the end of the auction. Payment is required in full within seven days of the end of the auction. Taxes, transfer fees and transportation costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
I prefer not to disclose the reserve. Your are welcome to bid what the car is worth to you. Zero and/or low feedback bidders are asked to contact me before bidding, otherwise those bids may not be accepted.
