Completely Restored 1961 Jaguar Mark 2 Saloon MKII
Description
Titled as a 1961 when it was first sold. This car was manufactured July 15, 1960 so it is a very early MK2. Chassis number P213559BW. It has 47,600 actual miles on it. Rotisserie restoration was completed in September 2019. A numbers matching car with factory Heritage Certificate.
Here is an opportunity to acquire a true classic hand-made car that is freshly restored at a very low price.
The car experienced very little rust in its lifetime. All body panels are original and unibody components are original and in great shape. No evidence of any accident damage. The undercarriage is very nicely detailed and properly done. The body seams and gaps are excellent. No cloudiness or delamination in the windshield. The wood is beautifully refinished.
As the Heritage Certificate shows, it was originally British Racing Green with a tan interior. In 1988 the owner had the color changed to JA036 Cream with a red interior. The restoration shop in Buffalo did an excellent job. JA036 was a correct factory color for 1959-1964 Mark2s. The interior is in excellent condition and is a correct Jaguar vinyl interior from England with original tags on it.
I bought the car in 2017 and performed a 2 year restoration and made three improvements: * replaced the original large pancake air cleaner (which nearly covers the beautiful XK racing engine) with XK140 small air cleaners. *replaced the original wide rear spats with Coombs-style narrow racing spats. *replaced the small front disc brakes with the vastly improved Wilwood 4 piston front brakes.
The original wide spats and large pancake air filter are completely restored and are included with the car and can be reinstalled in minutes if desired (see photo).
Engine - 3.8 litre. Excellent compression. Head removed and piston crowns cleaned and valves cleaned. New timing chains and tensioners installed and valve clearances set. Carbs rebuilt with complete kits from Curto. Runs great. Quite fast.
Transmission - New filter installed. New front and rear main seals. New gaskets on external case. Shifts very well. The Borg Warner 3 speed automatic is an excellent unit and is regarded as very dependable.
New genuine factory exhaust. New ball joints. Recent tie rods. New idler bushings. Front end is completely tight and it steers very well. New pinion seal in differential. New master cylinder and rebuilt rear wheel cylinders. New Boge front shocks. Recent Koni rear shocks. Gas tank cleaned and interior coated with ethanol-resistant sealer. All new brake lines and hoses. Rebuilt power steering pump and box. Radiator cleaned and tested (plastic shroud eliminated). New water pump and hoses. The car runs at the proper 70 degrees Centigrade. Rebuilt door, boot and glove box locks. Radial white wall tires have very few miles on them. Original tool box in great condition. All tools are there but some are Made-in-England replacements. Also included is a half gallon of JA036 cream paint.
The car drives beautifully. NADA valuation is: High retail $108,200; Average retail $56,800; Low retail $28,200.I have many more photos that can be sent.
The car is registered and New York State inspected. We are in Rochester New York just 5 minutes from the airport.. We encourage a prospective buyer to come and inspect and drive the car. There are also a number of classic car restoration shops in Rochester that can inspect the car in your behalf.
