Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this superb XK150 Coupe for straightforward restoration. This car was recently purchased from a dry Central California garage where it was stored since the 1970's. The car was partly disassembled for restoration, the body was carefully stripped to baremetal by hand. Some rechroming was completed on the bumpers and 4 overriders, the tailight housings, headlight rims, and some other interior fittings.
Life changed for the previous owner and the car was then stored inside a garage for the next 40 years.
This car today has an amazingly straight, fantastic rustfree body as a result of being pulled off the road early in it's life. The car's body is in it's most honest and revealing bare metal state, save for the hood and trunk which appear to have original paint. It has some flash surface rust that can be easily sanded off. The car shows all of it's beautiful, smooth, factory leaded seam work.
The car's undercarriage was steam cleaned at some point and reveals a perfectly honest, straight, clean, lovely chassis still with lots of nice factory black paint, unlike most XK's of this age.
The car is missing a few noted items such as the radiator and front and rear screen chrome finishers. Some engine pieces are removed but are stored in the spare tire wheel well. The car currently has a period correct, but later 3.4 liter XK150 engine (eng. # V4686-8) than is shown on the original data plate (eng. # V1830-8). The engine is currently stuck, and would most likely require a rebuild. The intake and carb setup are complete but were loosely attached inverted for shipping purposes.
The car's instruments are in excellent shape. All of the glass appears very nice and usable with the door glass and channeling wrapped up in paper. The engine bay wiring harness was removed at some point so a new one would be in order.
Overall, this excellent XK150 is now almost 60 years old and has been very well preserved in a California garage. It represents a rare opportunity to acquire a Jaguar with superb original bodywork, which will translate into huge savings during the restoration process. The car's new owner can rest assured that his XK150 has a virgin and original body with all factory sheetmetal ! This car should be very simple to "put into paint'...
This car is sold with it's original small style California "pink slip' issued in 1970.
