Description

Streetside Classics is fast becoming Jeep central, and even we had to step back in awe when this rare, useful, and incredibly capable 1984 Jeep Scrambler showed up. With an LS1 V8 it moves like a muscle car, with an extended wheelbase it hauls plenty of gear, and with legendary Jeep ruggedness, it's still ready to hit the trails. Is this the ultimate 4x4?Prices are definitely on the move with these CJ-style Jeeps and the rare Scrambler is a highly desirable variant. Of course, finding a good one is the challenge, with so many being bashed, abused, used up, and modified beyond recognition, and that's why we love this one so much. The modifications it does have are sensible without altering the truck's basic goodness and the bright red paint has a glow that suggests it's been loved rather than used. The slab-sided body doesn't offer dramatic curves, but it doesn't give shoddy workmanship anywhere to hide, either, and aside from a few blemishes on the front fenders, it's really impressive overall. Correct yellow and orange decals and "SCRAMBLER" lettering on the hood work well with the black rubber fender flares and polished stainless front bumper. Traditional Jeep styling cues abound, from the grille to the exposed hood latches to the giant spare tire out back, and tubular steps make it easy to climb aboard. Everywhere you look, this thing is dialed-in.Inside, this Scrambler is far from basic, with brand new tan vinyl bucket seats that fit well because they were made just for this application. The floors are covered with more spray-in bedliner material so they'll look good practically forever, and there are heavy-duty tan rubber mats, just in case. The dashboard and steering wheel will look familiar to anyone who has piloted a CJ in the past and all the gauges are in good working order, although the oversized rubber makes the speedo read a little low. There's an AM/FM/cassette stereo system, although I'm guessing that you'll hardly use it when enjoying this Jeep alfresco. The rear seat in the bed is from a 1995 Jeep Wrangler is upholstered in matching weatherproof vinyl and pops out pretty easily if you want to use this truck as, well, a truck. It also includes color-matched full steel doors and a half cab hardtop for inclement weather.Forget the original six-cylinder engine, this Scrambler now has GM's finest, an all-aluminum LS1 V8. On top there's a Spectre intake manifold that works with the factory fuel injection to deliver unmatched reliability, and the PCM was installed up high to keep it safe from water and dirt. Bright red coil covers from a Z06 Corvette and a custom air cleaner work with OEM accessories to make the engine bay look as if the factory built it this way. There's a custom aluminum radiator for just this application and it includes an oversized transmission cooler for slogging through the dirt. Power steering and brakes are welcome on anything with tires this big and there's a snarky dual exhaust system with turn-downs just ahead of the rear axle. The column-shifted automatic transmission, 2-speed transfer case, and heavy duty axles at both ends are the hardware you need for climbing through the rough stuff, and it's all new. The suspension offers a 2-inch Rancho lift, complete poly bushings, and new hardware throughout. It's also been fitted with brand new 35x12.5-15 BFGoodrich radials on cool aluminum wheels that give it a very flashy look.Take it from us, Jeeps are red hot and if you like the utility of the Scrambler and the dependability a modern vehicle, you're going to have a hard time finding one nicer than this.
