1983 CJ5. All original body and original paint. No rust.
Description
This is a very original and very cool 1983 CJ5. It has the original steel body, the original paint and absolutely no rust anywhere. A Jeep like this is virtually impossible to find. Most CJ's are either full of rust or they have been restored with patches, plastic or fiberglass. Not this one. I am the third owner of this jeep. I purchased it from the second owner two years ago. The second owner purchased the jeep in 1984 from Desert GMC in Las Vegas with 4,323 miles on the odometer. He lived in Las Vegas, and then Kanab, Utah, which is in the middle of the desert. This jeep spent most of its life in the desert, which is why it has never seen rust. The original paint has incredible patina. The desert weather has worn the finish down to bare metal in some places, and still there is no rust. When I purchased the jeep I had the body professionally finished with a flat clear coat to preserve the weathered look. You won't find another jeep like this.
The odometer shows 133,000 original miles. The motor was replaced at 118,461 miles with a long block AMC 258 6 cylinder motor. It is strong, fires right up, runs perfectly and does not leak or burn any oil. The carburetor has been replaced with a Howell fuel injection system, with a high altitude switch. The engine has a Westside Performance vale cover. It has NoSpin detroit lockers front and rear, as well as a one-piece rear axle by Moser Engineering. The Dana 300 transfer case has twin sticks, which allows you to control the front and rear differentials independently. Pro Comp springs with a 2.5" lift with an additional 1" body lift. Terra Low gears. Auto Meter tach. There is a hand throttle control on the gear shifter, which makes it easier to navigate technical trails. 32x11.5x15 BF Goodrich tires on American Racing wheels. Tires and wheels are new (less than 1,000 miles on them). Up front it has a Ramsey 8000lb winch, KC highlites, and a high clearance jack. Tuffy locking center console. It also has a Sony Bluetooth stereo with two speakers in the dash and two speakers in the rear. It even has a working CB radio. There are some minor cracks in the front seats, but they are firm and comfortable. The rear seat is excellent.
The jeep does come with a Bestop soft top and soft doors in decent condition. It also comes with an extra top and extra soft doors which look like they've never been used, a Rain Gear trail cover (not pictured), and a bikini top. I removed the soft top (including the hardware) when I purchased the jeep and have not put it back on as I've only used the jeep as a weekend toy.
This is a very unique piece that gets looks everywhere it goes. No one else has a jeep like this. It is old school at its finest. 1983 was the last year for the CJ5. This jeep as not been abused. The gentleman I purchased it from was in his 70's. I am in my 50's. This jeep needs nothing. Every switch, gauge and light works as it should. It is ready to drive. I have receipts, records and manuals going back 20+ years.
