1956 GAZ 69
Description
1956 GAZ 69
This vehicle was originally from the E. German Army and was found in a field in W. Germany the day after the wall came down. The US Army then took it to Ft. Sill where it sat in the base museum. After funding for the museum was lost a Army LTC purchased the vehicle, unfortunately the records of its provenance was lost with his passing. When I got the vehicle it was in primer and needed some work. I found an individual in Bulgaria who has a large amount of NOS parts for the GAZ.
I have replaced the water pump, starter, head, all gaskets on the engine, fan belt, clutch, had wiper motors rebuilt, throw out bearing, transmission, all axle bearings, master cylinder, brake lines, brake pistons, brake shoes, all associated brake hardware, added lock out hubs to front axle, radiator flushed and pressure checked, auxiliary fuel tank cleaned and sealed and probably a couple items I’m forgetting. Currently running with a distributor from a ford flathead with pertronix electronic ignition, but do have NOS distributor and many additional spares to go to buyer.
I painted the exterior in OD, put brush in liner on interior floors, cleaned and under coated the bottom. Having been stored inside it is rust free.
The electrical system has been gone through and everything works.
The soft top was damaged in transport from Ft. Sill, but I do have all but the windshield bracing for a new top. Since I only drive the vehicle when it’s nice I have not bothered to purchase one, though they are available.
The two items I have not addressed are the cleaning and sealing of the main tank and the reupholstering of the front seat backs.
The vehicle drives great, easy starting and there are not many in the US. I am happy to provide additional pictures to interested buyers.
