For your consideration is a 1983 AMC DJ-5 (Dispatch Jeep) Postal Mail Jeep
This was the last year of the postal jeep not counting the 1984 4x4 models which were all sent to Alaska.
Being the last year, it was also the most dependable with many factory upgrades from any jeep before 1980.
This jeep features the AMC Straight-4 cylinder Engine and Automatic Transmission.
The Electronic ignition which replaced the basic "Point & Contact" ignition of earlier years is far superior and more dependable.
This Jeep has been meticulously maintained throughout the years.
The transmission was completely rebuilt in 2014, and then the jeep was driven only occasionally.
New POR Permanent Rust Preventative Coating on much of the jeep including floorpans.
New Air Force Blue Paint. (Note: As with the majority of Postal Jeeps, there are imperfections and visible scratches under the paint). Jeep has small dent on front left cab corner, and light crease on doors (see photos).
Extra Features include: Rare Extra Large Mail Tray, Fire Extinguisher, All-On Lights for Delivery, 2 Auxilliary Power Ports for optional strobe lights, fan, or anything that uses a cigarette-lighter plug. Lockable doors including rear cargo door (which is now required by the Post Office for mail security).
Still has the original headliner which is extremely rare.
This jeep is Route-Ready for Postal Mail Delivery, Paper Delivery, Parking Meter Services, Airport/Pilot transportation etc. or as a great unique vehicle to own and drive around.
I was a mail carrier for 13 years and have seen hundreds of these jeeps, but have never seen or had one in this desirable condition, as most of them were so neglected and rusted away. If you have already looked at postal jeeps, you will definitely appreciate this one.
These jeeps operate great in the snow due to the short wheel base, and ground clearance.
