The story:
I purchased this vehicle in 2013 from a friend who had plans to do a restoration. It sat at their father's house untouched for eight years, when I took on the project. When I got it, it was pretty rough. I did a tub swap on this vehicle from a 1993 Wrangler. While it was off, I undercoated the new tub and performed a bunch of mechanical tasks which needed to be done while the access was easier. Nearly everything which needed to be done with this is taken care of. Air conditioner is not currently installed but will be included with the vehicle, as well as factory hardtop (no rear liftgate). Also, there is factory cruise control, but it takes a special speedometer cable, and I purchased a non-cruise cable locally to get it working and just never got around to hooking it back up.
I have poured many hours of labor into this Jeep, and I don't even want to say how much money. Just know that this price is a sacrifice, and I don't want to sell it but I need something bigger to haul my K-9 partner around in. It will be missed.
I started to do a build thread on one of the forums, but was much more interested in wrenching than blogging. If you want to check it out, it's here:https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/jfab-s-1983-jeep-cj7-limited-rebuild-thread-2362193/
The bad:
It needs a good tune-up. I think it is running rich and the electric choke needs some tweaking. It sometimes runs a little rough when you first start it up. Looks-wise, it's not bad -- it looks really nice from about 20 feet, and some of the warts show a bit when you're close up. But it's still beautiful -- it's a Jeep! :) No windshield washer installed (never got around to it). Never mounted dimmer switch on the floor. Was going to reinstall the carpeting in a slightly different position over the winter and decidced not to mount it until then.
It really is a nice Jeep, and it's been a lot of fun to work on. It'll be missed, but I have a second Jeep which I am starting work on as soon as I can sell this one. It's been in the family for about 50 years, and any time I have to work on vehicles will be spent on that one.
Vehicle is for saleoutside of eBay as well. This listing will be removed if it sells locally.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. I would be more than happy to answer them. If I can think of anything else I have missed, I will be sure to edit this post to include it. If you can still see this post, it's still for sale! Thanks for reading!
