1972 Jeep CJ5 RENEGADE V8, NR vintage predecessor to the cj7 and wrangler

Up for consideration is this fine example of a first year CJ5 “Renegade”.

1972 is an important year for jeep, as it is the first year they offered the Renegade package to the public as a “performance special order option” (not just a sticker kit like the post 1975 jeeps).

This performance package came with the 304 V8, limited slip diff, hd springs, decals, renegade paint color, tailgate delete, and slot mag wheels

Only 300 Renegades per color were produced in 1972. This one in particular was originally “renegade orange”. Unfortunately sometime in the late 1980’s this jeep was repainted “granny pantie beige”. Although it’s beige paint doesn’t do much for its masculine side, the respray did help to preserve its metal.

Just like any wild beast, it’s hard for this jeep not to let it’s true color shine through. The “renegade orange” is already peaking through the ugly re-spray just screaming for someone to bring it back to its glory days.

The body has ware but is primarily rust free. The jeep certainly has its share of “whiskey” dents, as it spent the majority of its life as a hunting cabin rig, after it was sold new in NY.

The tub is great and the body work to make it awesome would be minimal. One small rust hole in the rear corner of the toolbox (also a crude access hole punched under the back of the drivers seat, and another one in the bed above the fuel tank), but no rot.

The front outer fenders and hood could benefit from being replaced, as they are just beat up.

Frame has zero rot.

The original 304 V8 is very strong and has recently benefited from a refresh not long ago, including complete cylinder head work. She has more power than you will ever need, and if it wasn’t for the factory power steering, you would have to be a real man to drive it. No hipsters allowed, just raw power waiting to be tamed.

All in all it is your chance to own a very scarce jeep. First year renegade, one of 300, in the best color available.
