1967 KAISER JEEP GLADIATOR J-2000 Flatbed Pickup. 4WD with 327 V-8 Vigilante Engine (the original engine). LOW MILEAGE---only 85,510 actual miles! Starts and runs good.
Many Jeep enthusiasts believe the 60’s Gladiators are some of the “coolest” looking vehicles Jeep ever made. Perhaps it’s because of the unique grille which is reminiscent of the face-shield on a Roman gladiator’s helmet. It is also called a “Rhino” grille---because of its “tough” appearance.
I have owned this J-2000 for over 35 years. I am reluctantly selling it because I also have a 48 Willys CJ-2A (which has been in the family even longer) and I can no longer justify having both.
I purchased it when I started clearing land to build my own home. It’s low gearing, stout engine, 4WD, trailer hitch, and flatbed made it suitable for a number of tasks during the clearing and building process. Over the past couple of decades, it has been used for occasional chores and hauling as well as trips to the post office or local feed store (thus, the low mileage). The body and bed are solid, primarily because it has spent most of its life under a shed roof. The engine/drive train are original and it has never been restored (it has been painted once---back to the original color: #16628 - Prairie Gold). NOTE: this truck began its life with a standard pickup bed, but the original owner decided he wanted a flatbed and removed it when it was nearly new (go figure!). I rebuilt the bed several years ago using Pressure Treated lumber. The bed is 10’ long and a little over 5’ wide!
This truck would be right at home on a ranch or farm or a rustic vacation/hunting-fishing property. OR, its “good bones” would make it a great candidate for a restoration project for someone wanting a cool looking truck that you don’t see very often.
HERE ARE SOME “EXTRAS” THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION !!
LITERATURE: the original Owner’s Manual; an original, comprehensive Service Manual (584 pages); an original 1967 Kaiser Jeep paint color chart; an original dealer brochure---“The Unstoppable Jeep Gladiator”; an original brochure on the V-8 Vigilante Engine; an original Kaiser Jeep electrical chart and specs; and (2) valve cover decals (see photos). There is additional original “glovebox paperwork” from the dealer that is also included.
PARTS: an original (and very hard to find) Oil Bath Air Cleaner housing (if you want to restore to original); a used mechanical fuel pump (was working when removed); a used starter (may need to be rebuilt); the carburetor that was on it when I bought it in 1983 (but it was not the original); and the original Windshield Washer Bag (see photos).
NOW, HERE ARE SOME SPECIFICS ABOUT THE TRUCK:
CAB: The cab is solid (including the: rocker panels, doors, fenders, hood and top). The passenger side floor pan has a couple of small holes, but is basically solid. The driver’s side floor pan has a 6” diameter hole, but it has been repaired with aluminum sheeting and undercoat/bondo (see photo from underneath). There are a few spots that need repair if you intend to restore it, but again, it is basically solid and far better than most pickups that are 52 years old.
BED: The bed is 10’ long and a little over 5’ wide. It is solid (but “rustic”). It is constructed out of Pressure Treated 4 x 4 crossmembers bolted to the frame and PT 2 x 6 decking that is screwed to the crossmembers. It is covered with a HD one-piece rubber matting. There are 3 sets of eye-bolts for securing material.
ENGINE: Engine is the original robust 327 V-8 Vigilante. I recently had the radiator rodded and replaced the hoses, clamps, thermostat, and radiator cap and filled with fresh 50/50 coolant. Replaced the fan belt and PCV valve. Changed the oil and oil filter. Engine does not “smoke.” Although the engine starts and runs well, it’s probably time for a tune-up.
TRANSMISSION: 3 speed on the column. All speeds and reverse work fine.
4WD: Both high and low range work. WARN Lock-O-Matic Hubs were added by the dealership when it was new. The shifter needs a new rubber boot.
FUEL SYSTEM: Mechanical fuel pump was removed a few years ago (it’s included) and replaced with an in-line electric fuel pump (FACET Posi-Flo). I recently removed the behind seat gas tank, had it cleaned and installed a new sending unit filter, retainer ring, and neck filler grommet. I also replaced the fuel lines and the in-line fuel filter. NOTE: The carburetor is not original and the original Oil Bath Air Cleaner Housing was replaced before I ever bought it. HOWEVER: after much searching I found an original housing and it will be included if you want to restore to original (or you can sell or trade it). I will also include the carb that was put on years ago when the original carb was replaced. The carburetor that is on it now could stand some adjustment---something I’m not very good at.
BRAKES and SHOCKS: Brakes work (but barely)---they need replacing. Shocks really should be replaced as well.
GLASS: All intact with no chips or cracks.
LIGHTS: Headlights work on high and low beam. Taillights work. Rear signal lights work, front ones do not (believe it is only bulbs). The cab dome light works, but the cover lens is missing.
WIPERS and HORN: Wipers work, horn works (but it’s an added button on the dash).
SPEEDOMETER and ODOMETER: Both work.
TIRES: have less than 2000 miles on them. They are 16” MASTERCRAFT Courser A/T-2LT245/75RR16 M+S.
BATTERY: Is only a few months old (DURALAST GOLD). It has a quick disconnect.
HEATER/DEFROSTER: Does not work properly (not sure if it’s the fan or core).
