Description

1987 Land Rover Defender 90, 200TDI Turbo Diesel, 5 Speed Manual, Factory Left Hand Drive. Located in Austin, TX. This truck is a turn key driver. I just drove it on a 400 mile round trip at 70mph. It is not perfect, as it is 30 years old and has the original paint. It has a few scrapes, dings, and blemishes in the paint.
I searched for the Defender I wanted for several years. I finally located it in Spain. I purchased it, and shipped it from Barcelona to Galveston, TX. The Defender is now registered, titled, and inspected in Texas as a 1987 Land Rover Defender 90. The truck was originally equipped with a 19J Turbo Diesel. These engines are not designed for USA highway speed and bit the dust in a month. I researched replacement engines and went with a low mileage Land Rover Defender 200 TDI. This uses the same transmission and motor mounts, and is an updated Defender engine used in later model trucks. This engine includes an intercooler, which is not offered with the original 19J Turbo Diesel. This engine has much more power and reliability than the 19J. It is leaps and bounds ahead of the old motor.
History of the truck: This is a factory Left Hand Drive truck originally sold in Italy. The truck stayed in Italy until 2001 when it was purchased and driven to Barcelona, Spain. I purchased this truck in 2015 in Barcelona. It was exactly what I was looking for - LHD from a dry climate, footwells and door bottoms are in great shape with no rust. The previous owner in Spain did the interior work and I (along with Austin RoverWorks) completed all the mechanical updates to this truck including the engine swap and wheels/tires/clutch, etc.
The comments and feedback when I drive this truck around are incredible. Constant thumbs-up and questions everywhere I go.

What is wrong with this truck? This trucks has no Air Conditioner, like the majority of Defenders sold in Europe at this time. Like any 30 year old vehicle that was used, it has a few scrapes and dings but the body is really in nice shape. I almost had it painted but I really like the original paint look. I purchased a new driver's side fender panel but never installed it, this will be included in the sale. The roof has been painted black in the last two years. When I did the engine swap, I chose not to hook up the snorkel, but the next owner can do that if needed. I have included a 200 TDI Factory Airbox that I purchased separately after a long search. The oil pressure gauge is not currently hooked up because the 200TDI needs a sending unit for that. This truck is really nice for a 30 year old Defender, it really only has 108,000 KM which is 67,700 miles. Yes, this truck has the original KM speedometer. You can easily change it to a MPH speedometer but I wanted to keep it with the original mileage.
Truck is available for inspection and test drives in Austin, TX. No warranty expressed or implied.
