Description

Solid 1984 LandRover Defender Series, 110 model. First year of the real Defenders to replace the aging 109 and bumpy, stubby 88's, now equipped with Power disc brakes, Power steering and the most important revision of coil spring-suspension to replace the obsolete leafspring type of the 109 and 88 models. VIN # isSALLDHAH7AA203488.
Solid TWO-OWNER Land Rover, residing here in California since 2014, having been purchased in the UK from Team Sharp, a British Off-road competition venue, where it performed the duties of support- vehicle until early 2007, at which time it was purchased by the current owner. It resided in the UK until 2009, when it embarked in a cross-Europe trip that encompassed Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, making its way to the U.S in 2010.
This Defender 110 iscompletelyoriginal, exactly as it was originally built ( except for updated larger 16" wheels).
109k original kms. It starts immediately, idles and drives well. There is no rust or corrosion on this vehicle as it would be normally expected, with a SOLID chassis, doors and floorboards, other than some minor surface on areas of exposed metal (not perforation), and a small area above the left air-intake flap. Door frames, panels and bottoms are solid. I chose not to cover the whole underside up with black Rustoleum paint or WaxOyl like most do !* BEWARE OF RUST BUCKETS COMING FROM THE EAST COAST, and the newest crop of FL and TX flood cars.
Engine is a 4.2L PERKINS Turbo Diesel, which is INDESTRUCTIBLE, runs good and it is virtually bulletproof. As it is well documented in all Land rover circles, these motors produced a tremendous amount of low-end torque and could climb just about anything. It starts IMMEDIATELY, with NO glow-plug drama or cold-start issues ever again ! It idles smoothly and drives well.A super strong, reliable motor. Always runs cool. NO overheating issues to contend with. NONE.
Current maintenance requirements are:* A front driveshaft ( bought a new one, lost the invoice and could not return it)
* Some cosmetic tlc
Some extras that are included are:
A spare transfer case off a 1987 Defender 110An electric fan ( never installed it as it always runs cool)A bag full of various complete rear seatbelt assembliesA new ( wrong length) extra driveshaftA factory PERKINS service manualAn original UK license plate ( original to this 110)
Please note: if I am able to find some free time to address these needs, I will adjust the price up to reflect actual market value. This is a great opportunity for a Land Rover enthusiast to get into a real 110 Defender for cheap!
5 Spd manual transmission shifts well into all gears. Four-wheel disc brakes brake smoothly without pulsation ( it also has new brakes).Power steering, manual windows, all lights work.Transfer case and differentials engage smoothly and precisely, without noises, crunching or sloppiness.
Finish issea Bluecolor, with NO hood fading. Still shines quite nicely for its age. I retained the TEAM SHARP UK Logos, which can be removed if desired. This is probably one of the best colors for the Defender series Land Rovers.Original color was Arles Blue; it has always been a UK civilian-market Defender 110 and NEVER been an abused EX-MOD 110.
* I saw first-hand how the Brits treated their service 110s while I was on my second Iraq deployment with the 4/1 CAV in 2008 ( I spent a considerable amount of time in Basrah). They rode them hard, and I mean HARD.This Defender has ALWAYS been a Civilian Defender 110.
The body, chassis and undercarriage are very solid considering this Defender is thirty three years young !
This Land Rover is beingsold unrestored. Its original Cloth upholstery is in good condition and has held up well, showing average wear as expected. There are no cracks or tears on any of the bolsters in any of the seats. Dashboard is clean.
The photos show the Land Rover accurately. NON SMOKER vehicle always. A very solid, unrestored Defender, with better-than-average miles and a bulletproof 4.2 Turbo diesel Perkins engine. It runs well with a strong, solid powertrain. It will make an excellenttraveler, camping vehicle or just a fun Land Rover to drive aroundas it is, or restore to your taste. This Defender 110 is turn-key and runs well.
* My 1200+ all-positive feedback and the vehicle's condition and photographs speak for themselves.
I am a Land Rover enthusiast for sure. I've been around Land Rovers for over 30 years, and have owned various models and vintages.Unlike the vast majority of sellers who simply sell what they do not know ( let alone some car dealer!), I proudly own a Land Rover ( actually, I own six:a SWB, a DI, a 2010 Sport, a 2004 HSEand a Discovery II) and I am fairly familiar with most of their quirks.
Feel free to call me with serious, pertinent questions at (650) 430-4660 PST. I have priced this Defender 110 at way below fair market to sell, for a SERIOUS LR aficionado to take it to the next level. This is the first-year revision of the Defender, before it stopped being manufactured as a 109 and evolved into the iconic 110 Series, and became part of automotive history. You simply cannot find these anywhere without being all rusted out ( or for a fortune) in this condition.
I am also advertising this vehicle in several other venues, and as such, I reserve the right to end this listing at any time should a serious BUY-IT-NOW offer present itself.
Please ensure that your funding sources are in place prior to placing a bid or an offer. Payment to be received within THREE business days. It can be made via Cashier's check or money order(s). Upon receipt of payment, I will mail the clear NC title and bill of sale via USPS Priority mail with tracking information.I also have its NC license plate along with its original UK plate. In addition, I have its last UK MOT certification and importation papers from 2010.
I will be glad to assist coordination transportation/ delivery of the Defender anywhere nationwide or overseas at the most reasonable rate available. NOTE: Do not go by the Ebay calculator. It can ship for under $1000 anywhere to the East coast. Closer less of course.
