Description

964 Series IIA Land rover 88”model

OK I suspect if you are reading this add then you're already familiar with the usual Land Rover wagons cursing the streets and mountainous trails, but when was the last timeyou saw a pickup like this? All the same great utility, reliability, and go-anywhere traction,in a pickup version with all the cargo space you'll need.I’lladmitI’m a suckerfor the form-follows-function lookof the early Land Rovers. There's something insanely appealing about these purpose-built trucks and aside from a mountain goat, there's still nothing that climbs rough terrain better. The Land Rover pickup truck is a very rare find that will definitely be the only one at the next off-road gathering or cruise night, andIsuspectmostLandiefans like it that way. Thebeigecoloris arare andcheerful alternative to the usualblueorgreenfound on these machines, and with thebrowntop, it takes on arugged but friendly demeanor that's at home almost anyplace. The finish is decent, just the way you want it for a vehicle that's going to play in the dirt, not too perfect but good enough to show up anywhere with pride. Both theback fabrictopand the front hard top areremovable, creating a cool open air 6seater,thathas avery cool lookas well. The seriousness of intent is more than amply demonstrated by the hood-mounted spare tire, grille guard, grab handles, tow hitchandits PTO capabilities.

This truck is all about getting the job doneand basicutilitarianis the world inside. The middle front seat was removed and replaced with a gear console, as while youweretechnicallyable to fitthree acrossthe front, with the center-mounted shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission, the high / low shifter and the overdrive shifter, the guy in the middle wouldn’tbe comfortable for a long-distance trip. The black vinyl upholsteryin the front and in the backis in great shape and all the hardware is dedicated to going anywhere under the worst conditions. As you can tell that there's nothing in this truck thatdoesn’tserve a purpose. It's the ultimate in functional fun. The modest 2.25-liter inline-4 isall about reliability and you’ve already seen these trucks in the most remote parts of the world, so that claim holds up under scrutiny. Its performance is modest but it will get you there, no matter what.Under the hood, you will find thecorrect heavy-duty air cleaner, gigantic radiator (remember these were also used as stationary power units with the PTO), andasimple2 barreldowndraft carburetor. Both the brakes and the clutch have been updatedwithin the past 6,000 miles. The addednew wiringharnesswhich converted it to a negative groundandthe newoversized battery, has removed the old finicky positive ground anomalies that wouldperiodicallyflair up in old Lucas Electric systems. The chassis issolid butdoes have some surface ruston it. Thestockexhaustis new andtucked upnicelyfor ground clearance. Properpainted wheels and talloff-road tires make the perfect combination. Don't look now, but these are red-hot collectors' itemsthatremain fun trucksandare still eminently useful.

Engine

New head gasket, and top end freshened up approx.1,200 miles ago. The compressiondisplayed between 148 and 152PSIon the cylinders, the leak down test indicated only a 12% – 13% drop. I was told from the previous long tem owner that the bottom half was rebuilt between 45,000 and 50,000 miles ago and from the compression and leak down numbers it is apparent that she is a strong engine in great shape. Other new parts installed in the last 6,000miles include, a newold stock distributor with an updated electronic module installed. New starter, newgenerator, newfuel linesandcorrect glass bowl fuel filteradded. The over drive unit is innearperfect shape, and was installed about 2,500 miles ago soitcould drive on the freeway at 70 mphto get to the trails. It also has a killer tow setup on the front for when you want to tow her to further destinations. For me in Washington State, that was for trips to Moab UT and Bolder CO areas

New breaks to include upgraded master, drums, pads, and hard lines, new clutch, new clutch slavecylinder, all new axles, rebuilt hubs (all 4)to include thehighly sought afterWarren Hubsin the frontandnewtires with approx. 6,000 miles on them.

The fabric bedcanopyisonly2 seasons old and is in near perfect shape, the canopy bows were also sourced from an NOS stash and in perfect condition. The truckshard top was recently paintedapproximatelya year ago. I also have a full station wagonhard topsetup for the truck if wanted for an extra $500to the buyer of the truck (sorry it will not be sold separately at this time). The tail gate wasalso sourced from an NOS stash of parts and isinperfectconditionwithout any dents.
