Description

Time to let this one go unfortunately. Here for sale my 1981 Land Rover Series 3 109. I bought this 5 years ago from a little Land Rover shop in Wales. I had it shipped over and have been restoring it since. Brand new out of the box this was The National Geographical Society of Britains research truck for the Ukraine. After which it was transferred to the Royal Coastguard Service. Subsequently it was sold to a university for a while after which it was purchased by a couple who used it to drive the London to Capetown South Africa overland route. They blew the engine on the return route(originally a Land Rover 6 cyl) the mechanic bought from them and put a 2.25 Land Rover diesel. I bought it from him.
Since I got it I've touched and restored nearly every surface on this truck to get it to where it is now.
-Sandblasted the truck and frame.
-Repaired and treated and recoated frame for rust.
-New doors, upgraded to one piece defender door seals.
-Stripped, repaired and powder coated aluminum framed Land Rover military door tops.
-New 1 piece molded plastic door cards for front doors.
-Replaced all door lock sets w/ anti burst lockable sets.
-New fuel tank and upgraded marine grade fuel system lines.
-New brakes
-New parabolic springs and suspension.
-Upgraded headlights and new brake, turn running light set.
-Transplanted Land Rover 200 Tdi. I installed this as a DI w/o the turbo to keep the drive train happy. Also installed a Roverdrive overdrive from Canada.
-Upgraded 120 amp alternator and aftermarket high torque starter w/ new Optima redtop battery w/ battery kill switch.
-Lockable truck tool boxes added to roof rack. Plastic decking fitted to make sleeping platform on roof rack and new tie down points added.
-Soundproofing on entire interior surface and engine compartment added including antimicrobial military surplus headliner material.
-New complete front and second row Exmoor high back seats, and upgraded Humvee military surplus seat belts.
-Surplus aluminum airplane lockable cubby bow between front seats. CB mounted inside here.
-Marine grade stereo w/ Bluetooth and weather band channels and marine grade speaker system.
-Rhinolined interior floor surfaces.
-5 matching 7.50x16 mud and snow tires and an extra spare tire.
-Brand new paint job 1 year ago Dark British Racing Green.
Things I haven't finished:
-Interior door cards/ upholstery for second row and rear doors.
-The fuel gauge needs some dialing in. It got a new sender when fuel system was upgraded but has never read right.
-The speedometer needs a new cable and the temp gauge has never worked(I ended up adding a separate temp gauge with a digital readout.
Well that's about it.
