This 1984 Land Rover Defender 90 has been refinished with traditional green paint and a reworked diesel powerplant. Somebody spent a good deal of money on this refinish, as it has a traditional look and the sheetmetal underneath is straight. Clearly this Defender was not misused, abused or bashed off-roading. The oversized tires are new, there's a simple brush guard up front and the white top with built-in windows finishes this classic and cool look.
It has twin black leather bucket seats up front and traditional Land Rover side-facing benches in back all with safety belts. Factory gauges cover the basics for anyone in the world (This one came to NJ from Ireland in 2015). It has a 5-speed manual transmission and 2-speed transfer case, and there's a center console between the seats and an AM/FM/IPOD ready stereo radio. The cargo bay offers a massive amount of room with a ton of glass, making it bright and airy with great visibility.
Nothing can beat a diesel for longevity and reliability. The 2.5 liter 4-cylinder diesel engine was just serviced at Euromotors in Garwood, NJ and runs excellently. It bangs and shakes like a diesel, but the big hit of low-end torque and tall gears in the axles make it feel lively around town. Manage the 5-speed manual properly and it has no problem running through traffic and it cruises at highway speeds. It's not a show vehicle under the hood, but it's clean and shows signs of proper care. The shift action is smooth, the clutch action is clean, and with power steering and front disc brakes, it feels competent on or off the pavement. As great and classic as this truck is, it is sold as-is. Oversized steel wheels with fresh off-road radials give it an updated look and improved rock-climbing capabilities.
This Defender 90 is ready for wherever your life takes you.
