Extensive restoration to this particular NAS Defender 90 was performed by East Coast Rover Co. in 2006. East Coast Rover Co. installed numerous parts to improve the vehicle, including an ECR ROX 304 stainless steel exhaust system, Tuffy wheel well boxes, 6x9 Alpine speakers, ECR ROX spacers, 2 Optima batteries with a dual battery cross-over system (to use the second battery as a reserve), electrical upgrades, tune-ups associated with a Classic vehicle, VHF marine radio & PA system, Hella flexible map light, stainless steel bracket for the VHF antenna, and Tuffy center cubby box. See documentationwith the work order on our website.
Land Rover introduced two models in 1983 & 1984, initially marketed as the "Ninety" and the "One Ten," named to represent their respective wheel bases. To avoid confusion when Land Rover introduced the Discovery, they renamed the models "Defender 90" and " Defender 110" and added badging to the rear of the vehicles. They also produced limited numbers of the NAS version. The NAS Defender 90 features coil springs, a permanent 4WD system derived from the Range Rover with 2-speed transfer gearbox with lockable center differential, a modernized interior, a taller one-piece windshield, and a redesigned & more powerful engine. Land Rover's marketing of the vehicle as a multi-purpose family recreational vehicle with focus on improvement of interior trim and seating was a departure from their previous business model, and it certainly attracted new and existing buyers.
