This very late IIa came to us in turn-key condition as a viable daily driver. Rather than just 'turn it around' I saw its great potential. It had a bad rear main seal but rather than change the seal we fitted a fully-rebuilt engine. We also stripped the body to bare metal and did a complete respray inside and out and with a change from Pastel to Bronze green. We added a tropical roof and a set of rear jump seats and over the next 6 years brought it to what is arguably better than showroom condition.
In 3 shows, the worst recognition it received was first place. On a field of brilliant Aston Martins, Jaguars, Bentleys, Austin Healeys, Rolls Royces and Cobras this superlative machine took Best Debuting Restoration of the Day.In another event it was evaluated by a Chief Class Judge from the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and in approximately 3 minutes it was judged Best in Class.
Some might claim it's over restored. We certainly did not attempt this. In 48 years of restoring Rovers this probably qualifies as our pinnacle 88 Safari Wagon. Not only is it a head-turner but it also runs and drives impeccably.
Comes complete with a new-vehicle warranty, a complete, restored original factory tool kit and a full set of correct Factory Parts, Workshop and Owner's manuals.
