For Ford, Lincoln or luxury car collectors who seek to make a grand statement, we have your automotive punctuation here at MotoeXotica Classic Cars with this 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V Collector’s Series. In immaculate original condition, always garage kept with only 23,834 miles as stated by the previous owner and the current condition definitely supports that statement. The mechanical condition is also very nice as we just drove this car over 100 miles without fault, total land yacht!
With its sharp angles, creased flat bodysides, whitewall tires and Continental kit in the rear, you can almost see the spinning disco ball and hear the rhythms of Donna Summer, the Bee Gees and Chic. This particular example was built in February 1979 at Ford’s Wixom, Michigan Assembly Plant and it was shipped to the St. Louis, Missouri region and was originally sold by Morrow Bros. Ford in Greenfield, Illinois on March 20, 1979. The original owner traded in a 1978 Lincoln and a 1978 Ford pickup truck for this Mark V.
Dressed in stunning Midnight Blue Moondust Metallic (code 3Q), with a matching Valino grain half-vinyl roof (code YQ) the car’s original paint and trim are in near-excellent overall condition but the passenger side trim shows a couple of very minor blemishes. Only 3,900 Mark Vs were made in this color out of total production.
The windows are clear and intact and the car’s lights are all in one piece and haze-free. This car rolls on Michelin XLE whitewall radials, sized 235/75R15, surrounding factory turbine aluminum wheel covers with body-matching paint between the spokes for added flair. All of the car’s body panels are straight and solid. The trunk area includes a tool kit and umbrella that were standard features. The engine bay is all original and tidy and the bumpers’ condition matches the rest of the exterior.
Beneath that large hood is the factory original 400 CID Cleveland V-8 with a two-barrel carburetor mated to a three-speed Ford XPL C6 “Select-Shift” automatic transmission (code UEC77) and optional 2.75:1 rear end (code 2). Car comes with a long list of driver convenience features – Automatic Temperature Control, cruise control, power steering, tilt steering column, power four-wheel disc brakes with optional “Sure-Track” anti-skid brake system, power windows, power door locks, power sideview mirrors, six-way power driver’s seat, power radio antenna, power glass moonroof, power vent windows, heated sideview mirrors and a exterior temperature gauge built into the driver’s sideview mirror base.
Inside, the car is sumptuously appointed in Midnight Blue Kasmann II Luxury Cloth (code LB). The footwell courtesy lights come on when the driver’s door is opened. The split front and rear bench seats are in excellent order, complete with pull-down center armrests. The matching carpet looks great, as does the plush headliner and leather-wrapped, midnight blue instrument panel, with its ebony woodtone appliqué and brushed chrome inserts. The original two-spoke steering wheel is present with its matching ebony woodtone rim and hub inserts, and the inner door panels echo the interior’s overall theme. The mirror glass looks good and the center console is in very good order. Completing the interior are a Cartier clock and Ford’s then-top-of-the-line Electronic AM/FM Stereo Search Radio with Quadrasonic eight-track tape player. It has a floor-mounted foot-switch (inboard of the physically identical floor-mounted headlamp dimmer switch), to allow the driver to scan radio stations or advance tracks on the eight-track player without having to take their hands off the steering wheel. This car also has the optional Citizens Band (CB) radio, breaker, breaker, good buddy!
Documentation includes original window sticker, original Ford consumer information, original Ford limited warranty information, original invoice and other, assorted documents and items.
Competition to this Lincoln in 1979 included Buick’s Riviera, Cadillac’s Eldorado, Chrysler’s Cordoba, Dodge’s Magnum, Ford’s LTD II Brougham, Mercedes-Benz’s 280 CE, Mercury’s Cougar and Oldsmobile’s Toronado.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 23,834 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title due to age but the mileage is understood to be actual by previous owners statement and supporting provided paperwork.
