Description 1956 Continental Mark II Located in PORTLAND, OREGON.
The Ford Motor company introduced the second-generation Continental (the "Mark II") for 1956 as a halo car for the new Continental Division (separate from "Lincoln.") These prestige vehicles were largely hand-assembled and with a price tag of over $10,000 (equal in price to a Rolls-Royce or two Cadillacs in 1956,) and production of just 3,000 cars, these were true luxury vehicles for a fortunate few.
This particular car (#1254) was sold new by Dick Niles Lincoln in Portland, Oregon in 1956. Over the past 61 years it has been lovingly cared-for by just four owners, all in Oregon, and driven less than 65,000 miles in total. The curent owner has held the car for the past 20 years as part of his collection of classic vehicles. It has always been maintained by a private mechanic who oversees the collection.
The "Summit Green" paint is largely original, with the exception of the hood, which was repainted about 20 years ago and if you were not told, it is unnoticeable and matches the rest of the paint on the car perfectly. The overall condition of the original paint is excellent with a deep shine and only minor signs of age, attesting to the fine care this car has received throughout its lifetime. The body is laser-straight, accident-free and rust-free. The chrome and trim are stunning. Bright, without blemishes or pitting. The chromed door edges are spectacular and mirror-like. Please see photos. The leather interior appears original and is beautiful. The headliner and carpets were replaced about 20 years ago and appear excellent, in keeping with the rest of the interior. Dashboard is lovely and shows no distress or cracking. When recently checked, the radio hums and the vacuum powered antenna must be raised manually. All gauges work, as does the heater and defroster. Perfect glass all around. Power windows work well. All lights operate. The gorgeous finned Continental wheel covers are wrapped by Goodyear radial diamond wide-whitewall tires that appear like-new.
The original 368 cubic inch Continental V8 engine runs perfectly. Smooth and quiet with no smoke or unusual noises. 285 horsepower moves this car down the road. Fast and comfortable. Turbo-Drive 3-speed automatic transmission shifts well. Tredle-Vac brakes stop the car as expected. All receipts for work performed over the past 20 years are included. Overall, this is an amazing automobile that is ready to drive anywhere in style.
If you have been looking for an impeccably-maintained Continental Mark II that shows and runs beautifully, this is the one. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its rarity, condition and quality. Please bid accordingly.
