Description

Here is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own the blue Lincoln Town Car that Carl Perkins purchased new on May 22, 1989, from Golden Circle Lincoln Mercury in Jackson, TN. Carl was known for writing the song "Blue Suede Shoes" and many others. He was a member of the "Million Dollar Quartet" that sang at Sun Records. The quartet included Carl Perkins, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash. Carl started recording at Sun Studio in Memphis in 1954. Sam Phillips, the manager of Sun Records, had a contest for the artists of that time. The prize was a new Cadillac for the artist that sold a million copies of their recordings first. Carl won the contest with "Blue Suede Shoes," and it was on the charts for 21 weeks. Carl was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He is also a member of the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame and Nashville Songwriters' Hall of Fame. His son Stan, shown in the photographs, is also a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Sadly, Carl passed away in 1998. The son "Carl Perkins' Cadillac" was recorded a few years ago by the group Drive-by Truckers. Interestingly enough, Carl purchased this Lincoln in the twilight blue clearcoat metallic color, and the interior was a blue velour with the color shadow blue. The optional equipment on the car was a dark blue cambria roof and wire spoke aluminum wheels. After doing my research, I read that Carl never owned a pair of blue suede shoes. However, Elvis had a pair made for himself in 1956, and when they were sold they brought $76,800 at auction. Not bad for a pair of used shoes.
I saved this car from an estate. Here is the ownership and history on the car. Obviously, as shown in the original warranty ID card, the car was purchased new by Carl Perkins. In 1992 he sold or traded the car back to Golden Circle Ford Lincoln in Jackson, TN. They in turn sold the car to Gene and Carolyn Beard of Jackson, TN, for $19,036.73. At this time the car had 25,000 miles on it. Later they had Stan Perkins sign a notarized statement that this car was the car his dad owned. I believe this was when the pictures of Stan were taken. It was then sold to a gentleman by the name of Robert Verhoff in 2006. He passed away, and I bought it from his estate. When the car was in this gentleman's ownership, he was burning some debris, and the fire got out of hand and caused the damage on the car. However, the title is still clear. The car still runs and drives, and I did install a new battery. I have a Georgia certificate of title that was issued to me by probate court, and I will put the vehicle in my name so that it will have an Ohio title before the auction ends. I am going to put a very modest reserve on this car, considering the past ownership. It is my wish that someone with the skill and knowledge to restore this car will do so. Considering the influence that Carl Perkins had on the music industry, this car should be fully restored and placed in a museum. Carl produced an album in 1989 titled Born to Rock, and there is a car like this one on the cover. I have not verified that this is the car on the album, but it could be, because the car is also an '89, and the license plate reads "Suede."
Two forms of payment will be accepted: cash at pickup, or a certified bank check. If paying by check, my bank typically puts a seven-business-day hold on any check. I will not release the vehicle until funds have cleared my bank. I will not ship. If shipping is required, it will be the sole responsibility of the successful bidder. This auction is for US bidders only. Please do not bid if you do not intend to purchase the vehicle. If you cannot pay for the vehicle within seven days, please refrain from bidding. Thanks for your interest. Good luck, and happy bidding.

On Aug-25-18 at 13:20:13 PDT, seller added the following information:

The extra door panels you see in the pictures and many other parts are included in the sale. The car is still together with the exception of the back window being broken. The windshield is also cracked. As mentioned earlier, this is a running, driving car.
