Description

1969 Lincoln Continental Mark III

The 1969 Mark III was created when Lee Iacocca, Ford's Vice President, car and truck group, at the time, directed Design Vice President, Gene Bordinat, to "put a Rolls-Royce grille on a Thunderbird" With the Thunderbird "dying in the marketplace" Iacocca wanted to put the company's development investment to better use by expanding its platform over several models.

With a Rolls Royce grille on a Thunderbird, as per Lee Iacocca...we give you for consignment a 1969 version of the first year of the Lincoln Mk III. Add dressed up in nice black paint, beautifully preserved chrome, and all straight and true, this car presents as a very nice example ready to roll in style.

Exterior
Large straight panels, good gaps, black paint, nice trim and brite-work, and topped by a pristine black vinyl top, it does not get any better. From its front hidden headlights, Roll Royce-esque chromed grille to the iconic Continental vertical rear spare storage bump now integrated right into the trunk lid, this car is all buttoned up and presenting very nicely. Wire spoked wheel covers add a touch of class and dance with thin white sidewalls. A red and white pinstripe runs the length of the sides at the belt line and could be the accenting boutonniere of this tuxedoed luxury automobile.

Interior
From the first opening of the doors we know we will be surrounded by good taste and class with the horizontal ribbed broadcloth stuffed with padding and stitched into a triangular pattern complete with middle buttons. Wood appliqu borders this panel, and on the armrest of each door is a convenient ashtray, and power windows and window lock buttons. This triangulated pattern continues into the seating area with the broadcloth inserts, and these are surrounded by smooth shiny black vinyl bolsters. All power movement for the seats in front which offer up a dual armrest for added personal considerations to each passenger. A foursome of deep-set square gauges with wood appliqu trim in between them is into the dash front. We also see all the levers and knobs which are well within reach of the driver, who has a wood rimmed steering wheel at his grasp. The stitched black vinyl dash is overstuffed and very clean with no cracks. Looking above is a tight black headliner, and in a windscreen topping plastic black panel are a lineup of warning lights unobtrusively sitting there offering subtle suggestions. Black carpet floods the floors and is in very nice condition.

Drivetrain
Within the engine bay which is very clean and preserved nicely sits a big 460ci V8 topped by a single Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. On back is a C6 3-speed automatic transmission which pushes power rearward to a Ford 9-inch rear, with 2.80 gears.

Undercarriage
Not unlike the upside the undercarriage is well preserved with a bit of surface rust, straight floorpans and unibody frame. Power disc brakes for the front and power drums for the rear work with independent coil springs up front and a 4 link with coil springs on the rear suspension.

Drive-Ability
Extreme preservation and lots of luxury greet you with open arms upon entering into this luxurious vehicle. It starts immediately and runs very smoothly. Nice acceleration and smooth shifting get you up to speed in no time, and you can turn on the radio and be own your own silent cocoon as you wisk down the highway to your intended destination.

In this era of car manufacturing, large equaled social status, and different special appointments to the interior allowed for the users to feel unique. This car made me feel very special in the time of my interaction, and really looks the part in all its fine presentation.
