1970 LOTUS EUROPA S2 15K ORIG MLS! Runs GR8, Rare Find, Lo Rsrv, 1.5L Renault
Description
For sale by auction is my 1970 Lotus Europa S2. Only 1560 were made in 1970 and no telling how few remain especially in this condition with extremely low miles. Odometer is registering only 15,000 miles. Due to the age of the car, the title states miles are exempt but looking at the overall condition of the car, wear patterns for getting in and out of the car (you'll need to be part contortionist!) brake, clutch and accelerator pedals etc. 15,000 is VERY believable. The car has new tires and new battery and some other work. Car runs well but will only stay running at idle with choke closed. Still probably needs some carb adjustment. Car has a header and sounds very raspy, i.e. like a great european 4 cylinder engine should sound. The engine was supplied by Renault in 1970 for the Europa, a 1.5L I4 engine with approximately 90 horsepower. Considering the car only weighs in at 1600 pounds, thats enough to get you down the road. Steering is VERY responsive. Car is extremely low to the ground. The top of the roof comes at the top of my leg. I am 5'10" and weigh 225. (I used to weigh 340!) Car can be a challenge to get into but once you're in, it is very comfortable. Even more room on the passengers side. Don't be looking for a lot of creature comforts though. Seats are in a permanent recumbent position but this is one of the only cars I've driven where I could rest my head on the head rest and still be looking out the windshield! Rear view mirror comes with the car but is not attached to the windshield. It could easily be glued back on but you can't see much out the rear view anyway. Car has two trunks, one in the rear behind the engine (mid engine design) and one up front. See pics. Car has power windows (imagine that?!) Short throw shifter. Car sounds great running through the gears. Drives straight stops straight. This car has not been a garage queen all of its life so is you're looking for a concours condition vehicle, this is not for your. Paint/gel coat appears to be original and has a few spots where gel coat has worn off and raw fiberglass can be seen underneath. Has a scratch or two that has gone into fiberglass just in front of the rear wheel on drivers side. ALL PICS have been supersized to give prospective bidders/buyers the best and most accurate idea of the car's condition.
