Description

1954 Maserati A6GCS Spyder Recreation

Hand-crafted body copied from an authentic A6GCS, and blended with modern engineering and materials! All aluminum 4.5L V8, 5-speed manual transmission, ZF limited slip differential, Quad weber down-draft carburetion, coil over suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, custom chassis with full aluminum moncoque, and more! Weighs approximately 1,600lbs with 330hp!!

In order to compete in the prestigious World Sportscar Championship, Maserati introduced and developed the A6GCS from 1953 – 55. Initially designed as spyders by Colombo, the A6 evolved with variants refined by Fantuzzi, Fiandri, Vignale and Pininfarina. At the 1954 Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris, Maserati presented the A6GCS/54, in Berlinetta, Barchetta and Spider variations. To this day, the A6GCS remains a very important model to the legacy of Maserati as it had great racing success right from its debut. Maserati won numerous races with the A6GCS, including the 1953 Mille Miglia (1st and 2nd in class, 3rd overall), against brutal competition from the Ferrari and Mercedes factory teams. From 1953 – 1955 the A6GCS had documented success at the Targa Florio and Pescara, as well as races in Italy, South America, the UK, and several wins in the US. In total less than 50 Spyders were built between 1953 and 1955. All were originally delivered with a 1985cc aluminum block, overhead twin cam, twin plug engine producing approximately 170 horse power. As time went on, most of the competition driven A6GCS’s experienced multiple engine changes and subsequent modifications. Often, American derived power plants were used to replace expired 2.0 liter Maserati units. It is rare that an A6GCS comes to the market, so it is very speculative to state todays market value. In 2013, a nearly identical looking A6GCS was auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s were it failed to reach its pre-sale estimate of 3.5 million dollars after the spirited bidding ended with a no sale offer of $2,200,000 US Dollars.

The vehicle offered here is a beautiful and fascinating hand crafted recreation. It has a tube frame chassis, an aluminum semi-monocoque, and a fiberglass body. It is powered by an aluminum 4.5 litre V8 fed by 4 downdraft Webers, producing an intoxicating growl from its dual side exhaust. It does not matter if you are in to parking your car on the concourse lawn or taking it for a spirit drive on track day, you will have a very difficult time finding a better bang for the buck. Included with the sale will be a bolt-in chrome roll bar for track days, assembly pictures, and owner’s manual. It is no secret that the market values of quality recreations continue to go up, as the availability of quality turn-key examples continues to dissipate.
