1962 MASERATI 3500 GTi; FACTORY ONE OFF BODY 99% COMPLETE; all inventoried
Description
1962 Maserati 3500GTi factory documented one off body; 99% complete with all parts bagged, tagged, inventoried, and cataloged.
features requested include:-louvers on the hood-unique rear end style (more similar to later Sebring/Mexico)-driving lights and turn signals transposed-single 60mm exhaust with muffler delete-no trident for front grille-mud protection for front brakes-spare front bumper
other interesting features are larger front valance air duct/dam, 300 km speedometer, 5 gauge dash panel, and satin black dash.
The most distinct modification is to the rear of the car with a much shorter rear quarter panel, a radiused upper edge (almost like a spoiler) on the top of the trunk, with the same detail mirrored on the lower valance. The facia of the trunk has a flat detail that extends into the rear quarter panel nearing the tail lights.
This rear styling makes the car look much more sexy, agile, and nimble, as opposed to the original large rear overhang which is somewhat equal to the front design, giving it an appearance of a 60's Pontiac Bonneville sedan. Nearly all modern sports cars share a longer nose, with a shorter rear design. This styling exercise was the future.
Originally metallic grey exterior with black interior. Car is down to the bare aluminum with no evidence of any damage or previous bodywork. Super straight with only a few minor areas of work needed. All parts boxed and inventoried. Ready for your color selection.
Interior is all there, and ready for restoration. Engine is at a foremost engine builder, and it has been reported only in need of basic bearings, rings, gaskets and seals. Crank, cams, and cylinders are excellent. DCOE42 have been professionally rebuilt and restored. Like many, this engine is not stamped and is believed to be a replacement. Originally an injected car, along the way, Webers were installed which was much preferred.
Very interesting history with ties to the colorful Franco Cornacchia of Formula 1 fame. Cornacchia was instrumental in the origins of the 3500:
"Next came the bodywork. According to Carrozzeria Touring's Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni it was Commendatore Franco Cornacchia, a prominent Ferrari dealer, that put in contact Maserati owner Omar Orsi with the Milanese Carrozzeria."
