Description

When Mazda launched the MX-5 Miata in 1999, they installed a 115bhp N/A 1.6l engine. I doubt they ever imagined the potential these cars could have when modified!
This example has been upgraded with a Jackson Racing M45 Super-Charger. Coupled with their Intake Intercooler, and a full dyno tuning session, this car produces 155WHP! That's equivalent to over 175bhp at the crank! Quite an improvement while adding negligible weight! But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's start at the beginning.
This 1990 Miata was sold new at Fremont Mazda in Fremont, CA on March 12, 1990. The original owner kept it in the dry Climate of Southern California until 2002 when it sold to it's 2nd owner, in NE California, right along the Nevada border. It remained there until a friend of mine in Bismarck, ND bought the car in 2005.
Under his ownership, the car transformed from a stock well-maintained MX-5 to the Supercharged beast it is today! From 2005-2015 he made extensive improvements to the car! New Koni Blue Struts, Black Roll-Bar, White-faced Gauges, SSR Wheels, as well as the Supercharger were installed!
At this point. he grew his family and needed room for the grocery-getters, so he was forced to sell it to me. I've now had it in Texas for 3 years, and it has been a blast!
When I got the car, it ran fine, but was a little hesitant at certain RPMs, I suspected it was a tuning issue, and soon realized that the solution was a standalone ECU.
I had a Megasquirt MS2PNP ECU installed at Pope Automotive here in Lubbock in 2016. They also did all the dyno tuning, as well as updated the gauges on the A-pillar. They wound up with Dyno runs posting results of 155whp/145lb of torque! Very impressive from a stock long block!
The car now runs like a machine! Starts right up, pulls hard through all the gears, and has been a consistent driver for all of my ownership time.
Current mileage as of today is 96,441. I was assured that the timing belt was done in 2008 at 64,000 miles. Yes, this car has the "short-nose" crank. No, it hasn't given me any issues, even with the strain of a SuperCharger.
The paint is all original. I did a bumper-to-bumper polish of the single-stage Red last fall and it really shines! Sure, it has scratches and scuffs here and there, but no major damage to report!
Interior has stock seats and carpeting. No staining or smells, always kept clean and never abused. Bolsters are good, but might need repadding in the future. Gauge face has a white overlay as well as Blue-Green adjustable backlight (ah... the 2000's). A-pillar has new AEM AFR gauge and the Jackson Racing Boost gauge. Custom aluminum pedals have been installed in the past as well. The black Roll-bar is an unknown brand, but is the bolt-in type, so it can be removed if desired. Does fit under a stock Miata hardtop.
Radio was inoperable, so I replaced it with a storage cubby, the CD player in the dash is unhooked. Center Console is aftermarket with 2 cupholders and a larger storage area.
The soft-top has a few hairline stress-marks and wear-holes. No leaking yet, but I never let the car sit in the rain. Back window can be seen through but is getting sun-damaged and glazing over.
The exhaust Consists of Jackson Racing Tubular Header, Vibrant performance Resonator and Muffler, and Stainless Steel 4" Tip. Sounds rich and deep, little on the bellowing side, so it definitely wakes up the neighbors!
Wheels are Forged SSR Type C 16x7, a very lightweight, and very expensive choice! They retailed for over $1,400 new! Add in the 205/45ZR16 Toyo Proxes 4 Tires, and my buddy spent serious cash on the rolling stock alone!
I'll list here all the aftermarket parts and updates that the car has:

Overall, this car has been modified for the purpose of fun street driving. It's always had Adult Owners, and hasn't been parked outside or abused. It's an old Miata, so expect usual wear and tear, but is Solid and Rust Free. Straight body, brilliant Red paint, and a powerful drivetrain!
I've decided to price this Miata where I've seen similar performance oriented MX-5's sell recently. I have close to double the asking price in upgrades and expenses, but I understand where the market is and I'll let it go for a fair price.
Only selling so I can move on to the next fun project! Nothing's wrong with the car, and if my shop wasn't full, it would be a keeper!
Email me through eBay if you need more pics, I can only post 24, but I have plenty to share!
Car is located in Lubbock, Texas.
