Description

For sale by owner, 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD Turbo Diesel in 'Champagne Metalic' with under 200,000 original miles, and chrome wheel arches!!!
This car is rust and collision free having spent its life in Southern California and then New Mexico. It runs great and I just drove it 2000 miles fully loaded from New Mexico to Brooklyn without a hitch. It is now based in Brooklyn and I can no longer keep it though I have loved it as a reliable daily driver for over 3 years. It has a New Mexico registration. It runs fantastic summer and winter at 7000ft and sea level.
Within the time I have had it I have had it, I have had replaced:Bulk Fuel Line, Vacuum Line and Tees, Air Cleaner Mounts, Air Filter, Transmission Cooler Line,Lower Ball Joints, Shock Absorber, Brake Pads front and rear, Brake Sensors, Rod Assembly, Battery, Booster Hose, Oil Cooler Line, Fuel Filter, Radiator, AC Belt, Primary Pump, Michelin Tires, Window Switches, Transmission Linkage Bushing. I have also had a valve tune and wheel alignment done.
The front seats are not original but are W124 seats and are more comfortable than the originals. There is a recent leak in the vacuum system that controls the central locking but it is an easy fix and the locks all work manually. I have blocked off the engine vacuum system from the rest of the car with a ball bearing, so everything works as it should and engine shuts off as it should. The AC system needs a charge of R12 (or conversion to an R134A system) and is not blowing as cold as it should but heater works just fine. Occasionally the starter overheats after driving long distances in hot temperatures and could be replaced in future. The ALS suspension is original I believe and has NOT been converted to spring shock suspension as many have!
The interior is in good condition with just a few cracks in the dash. All wood trim is there though a couple are a bit loose.
I have spent over $5,000 on this car and it really does drive excellently. I have changed the oil etc. regularly and really put some love into it. I have no doubt that it will do 500,000 more miles with appropriate upkeep as these cars are indestructible when cared for.
This is a perfect candidate for full complete mint restoration, a great addition to any collection, veggie fuel conversion or just as a sexy and reliable daily driver. All pics are recent and taken in New Mexico... As I said, the car is now based in Brooklyn NY having driven it personally the 2000 miles. I am sad to let it go. It has served me well and taken me all over the country, but I am simply not able to keep two vehicles now I'm in NYC.
