1989 Mercedes Benz 560SL (Not 500SL, 450SL, 380SL, 350SL, 300SL, 280SL) SL 560
Description
Finished in rare pearl black metallic and parchment interior (199 blauschwarz/ 274 safran), this example represents the very high point of the venerable R107 series. This is a final production year car and at 5.6 L is equipped with the largest displacement engine ever in the series. (Over its seventeen-year run, the 107 was variously offered in 2.8 L, 3.0 L, 3.5 L, 3.8 L, 4.2 L, 4.5 L, 5.0 L and 5.6 L guises.)
Perhaps most notable, this is a European model trimmed car, distinguished by its unique bumpers, headlamps, front signal lamps, front and rear number/license plate mounts and rear deck spoiler. (outside of North America, this last feature set apart the flagship SL from its lesser brethren. This came in lieu of the chrome duck bill trunk handle.)
This matching numbers car has been sparingly driven, covering an average of less than 3,000 miles/year. As expected, the motor runs effortlessly while the transmission shifts with smooth precision. Outside, the car is in similarlyexceptional condition, having been repainted and reupholstered at a cost in excess of US$ 30,000 several years ago. The work was undertaken by a specialist coach builder and restorer of classic motorcars. Receipts detailing work will be included with sale.
The car is 28 years old and is not without imperfection (a few rock chips from motorway debris, wear etc.) The hard and soft tops are incredibly preserved as is the bright work throughout.
