1978 Mercedes 450SL convertible
Description
Selling my 1978 Mercedes 450SL with the rare rear jump seats! I purchased this car as a project to drive a bit. I'm now ready to move on my next project but need to sell this one first. The car is white in color and has been painted somewhere along the line before I purchased it. The original cloth top is in excellent shape for the age. I also have the original hard top with tinted glass, it has a small paint chip on the top up by the front (about the size of a silver dollar). The wheels look great but are that of a later model Mercedes.
The inside is Blue and very clean. Both front seats have been recovered before I purchased it, as well as a plastic dash-cap that covers the original dash that must have been cracked. Other than that the interior seems to be all original. I do have the original Radio but the display is bad. I swapped it out for a nice Sony CD player as well as two new speakers that sound much better than what was in it when I purchased the car. The original speaker covers and Radio are all in the trunk. The carpet and original mats are in great shape. the wood on the console by the shifter was badly chipped when I got it so I did refinish it with a matching stain and poly however there is one run mark on the left side as you can see in the picture, still looks much better than before. The rear jump seats look fantastic. The power antenna must have a bad tooth in the motor somewhere as it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't so I got it all the way up and turned the switch off. The AC and Heat do work but sometimes you have to mash the button a few times to get it to do what you want, from everything I've read online this is pretty normal to this vacuum driven hvac system.
The body shows good for its age but does have a couple places here and there that I have done my best to photograph, the right front fender is pushed in slightly near the bottom and that has caused the paint to crack on both sides if the dent. There is also a scratch just behind the top that looks to have been caused by someone removing the hard top and allowing it to drag, the hard top has one chipped place on the top of it. The left rear corner bumper has a small crack in it and the right front headlight bezel had a small crack in the bottom that was patched. There is some minimal rust at the back of the car, not in the floor pans or any body panels. I will take photos of the entire undercarriage as well.
Mechanically the car seems to be above average runs great with a few minor leaks.
This car is being relisted due to a non paying buyer. Please only bid if you are actually interested and have sufficient funds. Thank you!
