Overview:

This 1973 Mercedes Benz 450SL garage find/survivor is from the 2nd year of R107 production, and is the last year for the smaller pre-impact bumpers. The car has spent most of its life in Arizona and most recently Washington State.

The white exterior shows mostly original paint with some crazing / patina and signs of prior paintwork on the trunklid. The Navy hard top and soft top are in nice condition. The body has been checked with a paint meter and shows from 3.3 to 7.9 mils with no obvious signs of crash damage. A small 2”x4” rusted section of the drivers side floor pan has been repaired with a MercedesSource.com Miracle Paint/fiberglass mat kit. The trunk area is clean with solid floors.

The Blue MB Tex interior is in nice original condition with some minor wear to the drivers seat. The dash has a cap and the carpets are mostly original. The stereo is an inexpensive aftermarket stereo unit.

The car starts, runs, and drives, with wipers, lights, signals and gauges in proper working order. The car comes with service records going back to 1997, the original owners manual, a new carpet set and a new uninstalled fan clutch.

This early survivor 450SL can be driven and enjoyed as-is, or it can be a basis for further restoration.

The Hagerty.com Collector Car Value Guide rates this model at

#1 Concours: $41,400

#2 Excellent: $30,700

#3 Good: $20,500

#4 Fair: $8,400

I would rate this car as slightly less than a 3.5, so that is the basis for my asking price. As a basis of comparison, a 1971 280SL “Pagoda” in this same condition is worth roughly $50K.

I am a licensed California used car dealer. Any California-based buyers are subject to applicable state/local tax & registration fees. For out of state buyers, the vehicle must be shipped out of California via Commercial Common Carrier, with a Bill of Lading, otherwise California sales tax will be due at the time of sale.

Pre-purchase inspections are available at buyer’s expense. In-person inspections / test drives are available, with 24 hour advance notice.

I can store the car at my warehouse for one week after the sale to allow sufficient time for vehicle shipping arrangements to be made.
