Vintage 1991 MERCEDES BENZ 420SEL Antique Collectible Clean Title Needs Work
Description
I regret that I have let this car sit for several years, because it ran like a sewing machine and shifted smoothwhen I was driving it ...
What Happened was that it began to not want to start every time.I initially thought it was the neutral safety switch on the transmissionbecause I could shift through the gears stopping in park or neutraland get it to start ... but eventually, it got to where it wouldn't start anymore.
I tried pulling a neutral safety switch off of one at the local junkyard, but wasn'table to fix it... I'm not that good of a mechanic, or that wasn't it.After sitting for awhile, I bought a used starter off of eBay but never got aroundto trying to install it... I almost think that it may be the ignition switch anyway.I really do not know, but I'm sure it's one of these three things.
Like I said, it has sat for a number of years, but the beautiful thing about this caris that the fuel pumps are outside of the tank, located by the right rear wheel,so it shouldn't be too hard to pump the old gas out of the tank and replace it withsome fresh gas before trying to start it again.
The body really is in great shape for the age of this car, there was a little rust atthe bottom left corner of the back window and the bottom left of the trunk, butthe rocker panels all look great and I believe this car has been here in the southmost of it's life if not all. The only dent in the body that I have been able to find isa small indention along the left side of the hood line. Otherwise, the body is great. The interior is a dark blue leather with a little roughness on the drivers seat butnot actually torn anywhere and I believe the dash has never cracked, last I looked.
I'm pretty sure the 420SEL means it's a 4.2 litre V8 ... I mean, I know it's a V8, butnot completely sure it's a 4.2 litre... but it is a gas engine and automatic transmission.
I hate myself for letting this sit so long, because the guy I bought it from said that hehad justspent $600 having all of the gaskets replaced and the motor ran as smoothas a sewing machine and the transmission shifted great... it rode so smooth!!!
I have a couple of extra wheels and tires in the trunk to go with it and some emblemsand new aftermarket smoked turn signals for the front. I really wanted to get this carfixed and back on the road, but I simply don't have the time to work on it.I paid $3,000 for it when I bought it about 5 years ago.
I have a clean and clear Mississippi title for it, and here, you can get an antique tagfor it, that you never have to renew. FYI
It's located here in Gulfport Mississippi.I could possibly help with delivery as I have atrailer I could use to haul it on.
