Description

IMPORTANT: Since this car is imported, it has a German VIN Number. eBay Motors does not recognize VIN numbers in this format, so for this reason the VIN number written above is in al zeros. The true VIN number is WBD1070421A021058.
The selling of imported vehicles is forbidden by US Law without proper documentation. All the proper documents are in my possession.
This auction is for a beautiful red 1985 280SL Mercedes Benz convertible. This car has been completely rebuilt and refurbished by a certified mechanic who works in an auto restoration shop at a licensed dealership. He undertook the entire restoration process in 1997. I purchased the car in 2010.
The car was originally imported directly from Germany. I have a copy of the National Highway Transportation Safety Certificate which certifies the vehicle for use on all public roads in the U.S,. Since this car was imported, it has a German VIN Number which cannot be entered
Description of the car: In terms of interior, there are no rips or tears in the seats or upholstery.and they are heated if you so choose to use it. Everything is clean and well-looked after. All the electronics in the vehicle work properly, This was basically the first car with heated seats which still work - a testament to the Mercedes Benz name. The original Becker Radio also still works with the retracting antenna in the back. All gauges on the dash run properly, including the clock and the manufacturer VDO, who still make dashboards for Mercedes Benz, produced them all. When the key is inserted, the engine kicks in immediately and there is no delay in the motor or transmission.
The car is a "hard-top" convertible. Mercedes Benz was extremely innovative in their design for this model. In the back section, there is a compartment for the manual, roll-up canvas top. The canvas top is in perfect condition, has no rips, tears, or bends. The matching hard top roof is also included and must be set in place manually when desired. I am including the hard-top carrier for storage when not in use along with the cover for the car. Also included are two standard latch tools that are needed to latch and de-latch both roofs. Once you open the trunk, you will notice everything is as it was when it was bought. Under the bottom carpet you will find a full spare tire and to the right, all the original tools to replace the tire. The exterior is immaculate. There are no scratches and it is polished and shines in the sun. The same goes for the matching hard-top cover. There is a small dent in the rear rubber bumper. There is also a very subtle gold pin stripe line that runs around the vehicle and it is a beautiful accent to the car. All the rims are originals. They are all the upgrade option for the car. The engine and transmission work perfectly and there are no defects in either. However, this is a sports car with only a 2.8L engine. It isn't one of the fastest engines affixed to this model. Nonetheless, it runs smoothly, efficiently, and most importantly is very responsive. There are no delays between the pedals and the engine. The steering wheel has a little bit of play but does not impact the handling. The original steering wheel is large for a good grip and turning. It comes with the original owners manual.
This car would be a beautiful addition to any collection or can be driven for your everyday enjoyment. This car has been well-loved and cared for, garaged kept and covered, and driven from May to October only. I have all maintenance records since my ownership and it has only been worked on by Benz mechanics. I have never driven it anywhere without numerous comments about its beauty. If you go to www.NADA.com, you will find that the average to high estimate retail price for this car is between $22,900 and $33,400. This car is in immaculate condition, so do not be deterred by the fact that this is a sports car with a small engine. This car is a true classic and treasure. SHE IS A BEAUTY and I regret having to sell her.
