This is a GREAT Mercedes, a 1983 300SD. I've owned this car for around 5 years and have moved so no longer have the room for it. It's an excellent daily driver in great condition and a ton of fun to drive!
This car has been very well maintained and nearly everything is in perfect working order. The engine and transmission are awesome. Tons of torque and very solid shifting. The oil is changed religiouslyevery 3,000 miles. It runs like a dream. It's Blue, with a tan leather interior. The seats are in great shape with no tears in the leather. The upper part of the rear driver side side is "loose" but not torn (needs to be sewn back down). Rear deck is perfect with original storage compartment covers. Wood dash has a couple nicks, but nothing is missing. The roof liner is perfect with no tears or stains. The interior of this car is really great.
The body is solid. There is no rust, no dents and no deep scratches. The paint is 6 or 7 out of 10. There is fading on the roof and some spotting on the trunk (this indicates it's been painted before, however i don't have a record of that). The CARFAX is clean, no damage or accidents.
Highlights include:
  • HD Alpine stereo with bluetooth and AUX inputs
  • Alpine 4-way Focal speakers
  • Alpine 45Wx4 head unit power module (amplifier)
  • 250W 10" subwoofer (in the trunk)
  • Renegade 20% window tint all around (w/ warranty)
  • completely rebuilt and functional sunroof
  • cruise control module is newer, functions perfectly
  • both front seats are powered and work perfectly
  • vacuum pump has been replaced (powers the automatic door and trunk locks)
  • 14" chrome wheels are original and have been re-chromed (2016)
  • instrument cluster was rebuilt including new tach. Even the clock works!
  • brakes were replaced ~10,000 miles ago
  • tires are in great shape
  • battery is 2 years old
  • front driver and passenger window assembly, both rebuilt
  • automatic climate control with air conditioning works great! The A/C has NOT been converted and could use a charge. There are NO leaks in the system. I've charged this twice in just over years.
  • motor mounts have ~15,000 miles on them. There is no excessive shaking or vibration.
  • water pump and cooling system has been replaced
  • fuel filters and lines were replaced at 287,000 miles
So, what's wrong with the car?
  • the neutral safety switch was replaced about 4,000 miles ago. However, the car still occasionally doesn't do anything when you turn the key. It's NOT the starter which checks out fine. The car will start when the shifter is moved from park and/or the solenoid is 'jumped' (i can provide details). This means either the switch replacement was not correct or the actual key starter needs replacement (most likely). About half the time it starts fine, the other half, it needs "help". Not a big deal, but not ideal. If I hadn't moved i would have returned the car to the service technician who did the switch replacement for evaluation.
  • the passenger side window just died last week. If you know these cars you know the electric window assembly arms in the doors are plastic arms that aren't the greatest. I replaced the front 2 window assemblies, and now it's time to replace this one. It's NOT the motor which is working fine (thankfully).
  • I'vehad the the power antennae lowered permanently so the switch will not actuate the antennae. If you want this to work, the motor will need replacing.
  • the top of the door panels have small cracks. The driver panel is the biggest. It's poorly filled - not terrible (see photos) but not perfect.
  • there is a very small crack on the dash coming off one of the speaker vents.
I have all the service records since I'veowned the car. Almost all has been done by Tony's German Auto Care in Santa Ana. The fuel system work was done by Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach, and I used Laguna Viejo auto service for the A/C charges. Audio system and window tint were both done by AudioToyz in Mission Viejo. Again, i have all records.
it kills me to sell this great car, but i now have a smaller home and no garage space for the car (it's lived in a garage since i've owned it. It deserves it).
Please email me with any questions. I have (or can take) many other photos if you have something specific you'd like to see. The car now sits in LOMPOC, CA which is Santa Barbara county (about an hour north of Santa Barbara), 20 minutes south of Santa Maria. Local pick up is ideal but happy to ship (at your expense) if desired. Feel free to email with an offer! the car is listed in a few places so this auction may be ended at any time.
