1966 Mercedes Benz S-Class
Description
For sale is my father's 1966 230S Mercedes-Benz "Fintail" Heckflosse sedan.
This is a 120k mile, exceptionally clean 'survivor', driver quality car that was purchased by my father in 2013 as a black plate California car. He has continued to improve on any fault he found and has receipts in this file I am working from totaling $22,719.24.
Automatic, power steering and working cold A/C. 2.3L 6 cylinder, 4 speed automatic, with dual Zenith carbs. A very rare Fintail to find with these options and in this condition. The 230S is the most powerful Fintail model and has front disc brakes.
He purchased this car from a California Mercedes tech that took a lot of time and $$ to buy and refurbish the car. After the additional improvements my father has made, it is an extremely reliable car that can easily be used as a daily driver.
This car has zero rust, and only a few creases and little rock dings here and there. It's super dry, straight, and clean car. Always garaged from the past 2 x owners it originally came from the Sacramento area.
The car starts instantly, hot or cold with no smoke. Everything works except the original Blaupunkt with it's optional rear shelf speaker (however it does light up and "pops", but no music). She drives smoothly, and the rare option ivory steering wheel has a wonderful feel combined with the firm seating, makes for a unique driving experience. It handles well, tracks straight, and brakes tightly.
These cars are sophisticated and strong, very capable daily drivers. Shut the door and you get German manufacturing at it's best with a solid click. What a wonderful, solid sound. Original matching keys, manuals, tire changing tools, event the tire changing alignment pin is still in the holder in the trunk.
Total package for a 50+ year old time capsule.
