1987 2 Dr Convertible 5.6L V8 16V Automatic RWD
Description
Maren Morris sings the praises of this car in her song, 80's Mercedes. "Just keeps getting sweeter with age, she's a classic through any decade". So, come on down, "turn on the radio and get ready to roll". This car "still runs good and is built to last". Didn't mean to get carried away with her song, but she describes these cars so creatively. Now let's look at this particular car in a little more detail. Still looking good in white which is its original paint, it even comes with a removable hardtop. So, you can choose to pop the convertible top down for the summer and set the hardtop on for the winter. Or just pop the hardtop on for a different look. Up front a big Mercedes Star leads the way in the center of a sharp looking chrome grill flanked by quad headlights with a set of fog lights mounted under a chrome bumper with black rub strips. Down the side of the car there are bold chrome fender lips over highly polished Mercedes mag wheels and body side molding with a chrome highlight. A thin pinstripe runs along the top of the fenders and door accenting the smooth body lines of the car. The interior of this car is dressed out in leather and wood. Open the door and settle into the leather seat and grab the leather wrapped steering wheel that feels good in your hands. Mercedes has always been a leader in the area of safety and equipped their cars with air bags even before they were mandated. Luxury and convenience items include air conditioning that has been updated with R134 freon along with power windows, locks, and cruise control. Beautiful burled wood underlines a dash panel with the speedometer in the center, the tach on the right with an inset clock, and the fuel and engine gauges off on the left. A row of indicators, mostly in universal symbols rather than words because Mercedes sells the same car all over the world, runs underneath the gauges. The center console, also in burled wood, has the original radio plus the controller for a remote CD player mounted in it just over the ventilation controls. The shifter along with the power window and mirror switches are mounted at the base of the console. Pop the hood and you will find nestled down in a neat and clean engine bay, the largest engine offered by Mercedes that year. It runs well and there are signs of good regular maintenance. But wheel spinning power isn't what this engine is about. It's about quiet, confident, power that takes you down the road in style without a bunch of drama. This car is designed to run the autobahns, so the four-speed automatic is smooth and efficient in the way it enables the car to run at leisurely low RPMs in top gear while traveling down the highway. But this is a car built to handle the backroads and mountains of Bavaria like a sportscar too, so don't underestimate what it is quietly capable of. The fully independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes instill confidence and provide great handling without sacrificing a great ride. The car rides on 205/65R15 tires all around mounted on those sweet Mercedes chrome wheels. Come on down and check out this modern classic. It's a good looking, great handling, nice driving car. And it could be yours.
