Description

Appraised June 3, 2016 by renowned 190 SL expert Bruce Adams, this matching numbers 190 SL was restored in 1994 by Mercedes specialist Dr. Philip Lutfy, whose restorations include a total disassembling of the car and replacing all parts as necessary, followed by knowledgeable and skillful reassembly. It was subsequently owned and cared for by the owners of The Classic Marque in Massachusetts, and was kept in climate controlled conditions when not being driven. It came under its current ownership in 2007.

Born in 1957 and first registered in 1959, this is a straight and solid 190 SL that has been meticulously and professionally maintained over the years, and it remains in top driving condition. It underwent significant engine and braking system maintenance in 2015, to include a complete Solex carburetor rebuild. Additional 2015 maintenance: replaced points, condenser, cap and rotor, set ignition dwell and timing, changed all fluids and filters, replaced spark plugs, adjusted clutch, and pressure tested cooling system.

Brake work in 2015: replaced all brake shoes and adjuster pads, sleeved all wheel cylinders and master cylinder with stainless steel sleeves and rebuilt with new seals, rebuilt servo, replaced hoses, flushed and bled system.

Further maintenance and upgrades since 2007 include but are not limited to a SR58X starter, Crane electronic ignition, electric fuel pump, and 25mm sway bar, replaced king pins, idler arm and bushings, wheel bearings, inner differential seals and gaskets, motor mounts, rear trailing arm bushings, a split axle OEM spec 1-piece boot, muffler, and tires.

Offered in DB 534 red with tan interior and a tan canvas top, all gauges, switches and illumination function as intended. The vehicle comes equipped with a 3-piece matching luggage set, kinder seat, Kienzle clock, Becker Mexico radio, tool kit, rubber mat set, California cover, and Zertifikat.

This is a first-rate 190 SL with exemplary provenance, offered below appraised value, and an excellent value for the 190 SL enthusiast and car aficionado alike.
